A professional organizer is an individual who provides personal assistance, consulting, coaching, ideas, publications, seminars and/or products to help others get organized. Professional Organizers can specialize in a number of different areas, just to name a few: behavior modification, billing systems, closet design/organizing,events/meeting planning, financial/bookkeeping, memorabilia, packing/moving/relocation, paper management, office organizing, space management,the list is endless.While working for RISD, world renowned Rhode Island School of Design in 2001 the staff in the Executive Offices incited me to use my gifts. We were working on a project to commission several architects from other countries to prepare a presentation to bid to work on newly acquired buildings. I was temporarily using the office of the secretary to the Vice President of Finance and Administration; Mr. Jeff Apfel thought I was there to assist his offices. I soon had access to RISD carpenters and transformed the Executive suite creating a unique filing system to appeal to the Vice President's dexterity. Composition is the art of arranging, said Henri Matisse and so inspired this idea that the walls of this office became a showpiece for the students artwork that change each new semester. An office with a sitting area, a living room, if you will, a room with a view proved to be suitable for business meetings, staff and student visits, and private reading and reflection to its dweller. I was developing my niche as an organizer, and my style is to understand the client, create their esthetic and make it simple, appropriate and functional. Since then I have worked with interior designers in homes and corporate interior designers in schools, nursing homes and businesses. One project I truly enjoyed was moving an elderly couple from Connecticut to Arizona, downsizing moving and decorating a new space.
