As Country Logistician, my job consists in supervising the logistic activities of all EMERGENCY Hospitals in the country (Lashkar Gah, Kabul, Anabah), in coordination with the Medical Coordinators, the Country Director and the Logistics Desk. The Country Logistician plays a role of coordination and harmonization of the activities of the Logistics Departments of each individual hospitals, intercepting their needs in terms of support and training of the staff.

Hospital Manager at Salam Centre for Cardiac Surgery (located in Khartoum, Sudan), offering high quality surgical care to children and adults suffering from acquired or congenital heart diseases. The centre employs approx. 500 local staff members and 35 expatriates (https://salamcentre.emergency.it/).My job consists in:- supervising and coordinating the activities of the non-medical departments, i.e. Logistics, Technical, IT, Grants and Administrative departments. In this regards, it’s my responsibility to ensure the implementation of processes and procedures in the non-medical areas, in agreement with the Strategy Plan and the Field Operation Department;- following relations with authorities (Federal and State Ministries and Government institutions), institutional and non-institutional donors and other relevant parties;- supporting the activities of the other EMERGENCY NGO Paediatric projects in the country (located in Mayo, Nyala and Port Sudan);- implementing the workplace safety but also security protocols in order to ensure safe working conditions for our national and international staff.

My role consists in the management of the various logistics non-medical activities required to ensure the smooth running of the Salam Centre for Cardiac Surgery and our Pediatric Clinic in Mayo refugees camp (https://en.emergency.it/what-we-do/sudan/).Areas of activity:- Material flow: Management of the material flow (purchasing orders Local/Italy, import of air cargo & containers, supervision of the stores etc.);- Maintenance of the hospital: Planning the ordinary and extraordinary maintenance and leading the various working teams (ex. smiths,painters,plumbers,electrician,gardeners etc.);- Cleaning: Supervising the cleaning of the inside/outside hospital according to a high hygiene policy;- Security: Supervising the guards activity. Responsible for the security of the int. staff by monitoring the respect of our safety protocols;- Laundry and Tailoring: Procurement, production, washing, sterilization of uniforms and linen;- Arr./Dep,Visas: Responsible for letting expats in and out of Sudan (visa & permits procedures, welcoming and supporting them during their mission);- Assistance to other Emergency projects in Sudan: Procurement and shipment of material to Port Sudan and Nyala (Darfur) clinics;- Drivers: Organizing the daily drivers schedule for the int. staff, as well supervising our bus service for the local staff;- Vehicles: Supervision on the maintenance of our vehicles fleet;- Kitchens: Responsible for the Nat. and Int. kitchens (16000 meals per month), as well for the supply and stock of food and gas. Monthly visit to the markets for the negotiation of prices;- Satellite phones;- Compound: Management of the International Compound-rooms allocation/cleaning/maintenance;- Garbage and Septic tanks: Supervising the flow of garbage (medical and normal), as well the correct functioning of the septic tanks;- Welcoming visitors and show them the centre.- Mayo: Supporting the various logistics activities of our Pediatric clinic in Mayo refugees camp.

I conducted my thesis in collaboration with IV Produkt, a Swedish manufacturing company producing cost efficient and environmental friendly air handling units. The aim of my work was to improve the current handling and supply of raw material and semi-finished products to the assembly lines. The conclusion shows how the studied order to delivery process is built up today, highlighting several kind of waste in the current material/information flows. As a result, several actions, such as an extended use of the data system, the application of Kanban and the implementation of the ABC logic, in combination with a new proposed storage layout, were identified and proposed in order to minimize the risk of material shortage and waiting times
