I'm a software engineer with Apple's Audio & Media Technologies group (AMT). Our team develops the HTTP Live Streaming playback technologies that power Apple TV+, Apple Music, and other streaming applications on Apple devices, third-party Smart TVs, web browsers, and gaming consoles. I have been with AMT at Apple since 2016, but I took a short break in 2022 to explore the world of self-driving cars with Argo AI. After Argo AI's closure in late 2022, I moved back to AMT at Apple.During my short stint at Argo AI, I led the AV connectivity efforts for the offboard infrastructure team. Autonomous cars maintain an always-on connectivity to the offboard systems via cellular networks. To solve the problem of losing AV connectivity due to dynamically changing cellular carrier strength as the vehicle moves around, I led the team to design a connectivity service layer that employs cellular bonding using the network modems fitted on the AV. The connectivity service layer abstracts the network connections and provides a seamless interface for onboard applications to talk to their offboard counterparts.Before my role at Apple, I was part of BlueJeans Network, where I led a team in developing a solution called "Accelerator" that significantly enhanced the BlueJeans Events experience for our enterprise customers. Accelerator, a virtualized, on-premise HTTP cache managed via BlueJeans cloud infrastructure, not only optimized bandwidth costs but also notably improved the quality of the events by enhancing video quality.I started my career in the software industry with eInfochips Ltd. and Wipro Technologies. After spending a few initial years of my career in these organizations, I moved to SlingMedia, the makers of the then-popular Slingbox. My time at SlingMedia helped me focus more on embedded software and consumer electronics products. I joined the embedded software team at Sling and later led a team that built various streaming technologies on the Slingbox. We were among the first in the industry to embrace the potential of the HTTP Live Streaming protocol, leading the way in creating an HLS server on an embedded device. This work also paved the way for integrating the solution on various set-top boxes - SlingMedia's and that of partners.
