  • Het Nieuwe Instituut, British Council, Mondriaan Found, Prince Claus F, Futureeverything
Independent Curator/ Cultural Producer Working For Different Organisations Such As
Het Nieuwe Instituut, British Council, Mondriaan Found, Prince Claus F, Futureeverything Jan 2009 - Mar 2014
Since returning to Brazil in 2006 after several years in the UK, I’ve worked consistently with international cultural institutions and have led recent developments in this area. In 2009, I was one of the key team behind the British Council initiated event ‘Paralelo – art, technology and the environment”, which gathered 55 participants – including artists, designers, policy-maker and researchers – from three different countries (Brasil, the Netherlands and the United Kingdom) to discuss different ways in which collaborations across disciplinary and cultural borders can enable research and new insights into global and local environmental issues. In 2010 I collaborated with Glonet – a new model for group-to-group globally networked events, developed by FutureEverything in partnership with British Council, Distance Lab and Lancaster University. It was co- produced by W2 in Vancouver; Sendai Creative Cluster Consortium, FesLab and TRUNK in Sendai, Japan; amber in Istanbul, Turkey; and Vivo arte.mov in Sao Paulo, Brazil. Despite very tight time schedule we delivered a completely novel technological solution for this event, involving 5 different cities with distinct schedules and time zones. Also in 2010 I became executive curator of Arte.mov (www.artemov.net), a leading international mobile media art festival, which took place in 5 different regions of Brazil with a substantial programme of work happening locally and regionally involving the production of numerous events, talks and exhibitions.

We have arrived at a point of exhaustion – social, environmental, economical. Today, in the context of a lasting economic crisis that increasingly calls into question many other aspects of our society, it is vital to discuss different futures and alternative paths. This exhibition is not a call for revolution. It is an invite to take a moment to pause; to look back and think ahead. It intends to create a space to develop radical fictions – may they be critical, experiential or simply imaginative.Fiction is a form of narrative that deals with events that are not (yet) factual. Once in a while it is necessary to go beyond current facts and freely explore the possibilities of our desires, in order to understand clearly what today’s limitations are. This helps to step beyond the rigid framework of the contemporary mainstream society and to look at its complexities from a distance. The works selected for this show showcase various types of fiction, pushing the boundaries of our perception, values and belief systems. They act as agents, or systems of action, intended to provoke and question our forms of living and to re-imagine our everyday future.
