I am currently working with a number of clients, mainly in South Africa. Internationally, I am still analysing limited large scale desalination plant operations in the Middle East. Locally, I am working with National Treasury Cities Support Programme Water team in various metropolitan municipalities on an urban water reform agenda. This agenda has been developed to turnaround ailing municipal water & sanitation departments and transform them into sustainable, functional businesses that provide reliable services and offer value for money across the spectrum of consumers. My other work at the moment includes strategy and planning of bulk water supply and demand management in metros, secondary cities and local municipalities.

Building on my experience of managing the devastating drought in Cape Town, in my current role my objective is to add value in regions specifically vulnerable to water shortages. Working remotely, I provide the full range of consulting services on water and desalination projects, from concept design through to analysis of operational efficiency. I documented the Cape Town drought story, and my book, "Parched" was published by Springer Nature in November 2021. I have engaged widely in research and writing of technical literature in relation to water augmentation. I am currently working with metropolitan municipalities in South Africa on sustainable water management, specifically through focusing on reducing their water demand and water losses.

After nearly 7 years as executive in this high-stress environment, I decided to step down and leave the City's employment, despite having a contract with a performance related renewal clause through to the end of 2021. The finalization and approval of the Cape Town Water Strategy (developed specifically to reduce the impact of future droughts and increase resilience) provided an opportune time for me to enter the next exciting phase of my career.
