Gitanjali was born in India, and immigrated to the United States at the age of 8. She finished her Bachelor, Master, and Performer Diploma degrees in Voice Performance at Indiana University, Bloomington. Most recently, Gitanjali has sung solos for "The Messiah", the "Lord Nelson Mass", Mozart’s “Requiem”, “Exultate, Jubilate”, “Waisenhausmesse”, Bach’s “Christmas Oratorio”, and Despina in Cosi fan tutte by Mozart in Rome, Italy at the Rome Festival. She has sung in numerous festivals as a soloist and chorister including the Austin Chamber Music Festival, Oregon Bach Festival with Mr. Helmuth Rilling, the Victoria Bach Festival with Craig Hella Johnson, The Texas Toot with Daniel Johnson and the Amherst Early Music Festival with Andrew Lawrence-King. Ms. Mathur had the pleasure of making her Carnegie Hall debut in Jan. ’07 with Helmuth Rilling in J.S. Bach’s “St. Matthew Passion”. She was also thrilled to perform in a solo recital with the Belgium based “Flander’s Recorder Quartet”. She recently started performing in the eclectic organization “Viola By Choice” run by Aurelien Péttilot. Gitanjali has been the section leader in the Parish Choir at St. David’s Episcopal Church, conducted by David Stevens, since 2002. A resident of Austin, Ms. Mathur performs regularly with the professional chamber groups The Texas Early Music Project, and Conspirare, and is on the newly released Grammy nominated CD “Requiem”. Conducted by Patrick Dupre Quigley, this dynamic young group performs acapella choral repertoire, along with music accompanied by the fantastic Firebird Orchestra. Based out of Coral Gables, Florida.
Conspirare: A Company of Voices, is an ecclectic non-profit organization based out of Austin, TX. It is a Chamber Choir (around 36 singers) that focuses on performances of a capella choral works, with occasional instrumental collaboration. The group, led by Artistic Director Craig Hella Johnson, also expands to a Symphonic Choir with the use of community singers when they perform pieces that require 100-150 singers. The Chamber Choir has been nominated for a grammy for their CD "Requiem: we are so lightly here" in 2007, for "Threshold of Night" in 2008, and for PBS Conspirare: A Company of Voices in Concert. They have been invited to perform at the World Choral Music Symposium in Copenhagen, Denmark in July 2008. The groups performs repertoire that dates from 1500's to current composers. They enjoy commissioning new music.
This is an Early Music vocal and instrumental group specializing in performances dating before the 1600's. Their performances and style of singing and playing is historically correct...i.e using gut stringed instruments and mainly straight tone for singing. The group recently received their non-profit status under the Artistic Director Daniel Johnson.
Teaching private voice lessons and encouraging students to grow musically and personally through singing, vocal technique, beauty of tone, stage presence and confidence.
