I was a bad student. Don’t get me wrong, I was good at the math and at the physics, I’d solve all the problems and get good grades. But my passion doesn’t lie in learning, I do not enjoy learning for the sake of learning, my passion lies in making a tangible difference which I can see and feel… so clearly abstract theoretical physics is not where I flourish.By now I am an experienced data specialist who does magic with data from renewable energy assets. I have a strong customer focus, as I always want to be sure that what I build and develop is useful for the sharp end of the business. I often take on the role of translator and mediator between the technical people working directly with the assets and the IT part of the business – I question and coach the use of data and I set realistic expectations to the user, while also trying to push the IT side to prioritize the parts that will make the biggest difference for the users.Being transparent in usage of data and having open discussions regarding limitations of data is what I believe in. Machine learning is a wonderful tool, but most problems do not require a machine learning solution to start with, the majority just need a bit of statistics and common sense.Trust is the most important factor when getting organisations to utilize the data available, if they do not trust or understand the data – they are not going to listen to it.
