My main interest concerns the control of the dopaminergic neurons by the hippocampal formation. We have recently demonstrated that ventral subiculum (vSUB) controls the dopamine neurons activity of ventral tegmental area (VTA) through a relay in the bed nucleus of stria terminalis (BNST). The main objective of my project is to better understand the role played by this pathway in the long-term effect of cocaine on VTA dopaminergic neurons plastic adaptations. To achieve this objective I will combine tract-tracing approaches, in vivo electrophysiology and specific manipulation of neuronal circuits through opto- and pharmacogenetic manipulations.
