The CIVES “Citizens towards Sustainability” project, funded by Fondazione Cariplo with the 2009 call to “train for sustainability,” is a participatory project for the neighborhoods around Milan’s Darsena (Porta Ticinese dock) and Navigli and the area known as “Parco delle Risaie.” One of CIVES’s aims is to establish a ‘new alliance’ between citizens who live near the Darsena and farmers in the outlying area, in order to set off win-win cooperation to improve quality of life in these urban and rural spaces. The “Participatory Mapping of Heritage from Lomellina Farmsteads” project, funded by the Province of Pavia, the Lomellina Ecomuseo, and GAL Lomellina, developed a web environment to improve access to Region of Lombardy data about farmsteads in the Lomellina area. The information was made accessible to non-expert users through a four-stage initiative. First, the farmsteads were identified and mapped. Second, fieldwork gathered data on 35 farmsteads chosen for their historical importance. Eyewitnesses to the agricultural lifestyle of the farmsteads were then video interviewed delving into their intangible heritage. Finally, a website to share the outcomes of research and promote the farmstead heritage was designed and developed.Conceived and designed project.
