About Giulia Bondi
I am an Italian journalist, writer and videomaker. Since 2017 I work for RAI, Italian public television. I have worked as a freelance journalist since 2005. I also worked as a public information officer (Ufficio stampa del Comune di Modena, Italy) and in local tv. My work consists in finding interesting stories, propose and realize reportages either through words, pictures or video. I worked in difficult contexts like Former Yugoslavia; I travelled as a journalist through Italy and abroad (Greece, Iceland, Spain, Kosovo, Madagascar, Ethiopia, Saharawi refugee camps). I am able to manage tight schedules and deadlines, a skill I developed not only in journalistic work but also in previous jobs, organising big events and working with the public. I attended several courses and workshops on documentary, reportage and journalism. I like working in team and learning from other people's ideas and experiences. In 2006 I won, together with colleagues Massimo Gnone, Claudia Ribet and Luca Rosini, Youth prize at Ilaria Alpi journalistic television prize with the reportage “Diversi sguardi olimpici”. In 2008 I won the scolarship "Journalists between peace and war" which brought me to Kosovo to realise reportages. I am author and coordinator of participatory video and reportage workshops with young people and students. I wrote on national magazines (Terre di mezzo, L'Espresso, Peacereporter.net). I published four books and I worked for Rai – Italian public televison. I graduated in 2001 in Economic and social sciences at Commercial University Luigi Bocconi in Milan. I speak fluent English, good Portuguese and French, basic Spanish and Serbo-Croatian. In the last few years I dedicated myself to slow and ecological travelling: by bicycle in Italy and Europe, on foot in central Italy mountains or in the Alps, as a great way to meet people, find stories and understand territories and communities.Specialties: journalism, videomaking, research in culture & society
Listed skills include Editing, Giornalismo, Journalism, Scrittura, and 28 others.

Freelance Journalist
CurrentSince 2005 I work as a freelance journalist. I focus on social issues, immigration, solidarity, international cooperation. I also write about slow travelling (bike and trekking) and contemporary history. I belong to Q Code Magazine's editorial office, and my work appeared on Rai Tv (Protestantesimo, La storia siamo noi, Tg1 Storia), Orfeo Tv and many italian magazines (L'Espresso, Peacereporter.net, E il Mensile, Q code Magazine, Terre di Mezzo, Galatea, Il Mucchio, Campus, Italia Domani, Autonomie e comunità). I also work as independent press officer, especially for local, youth or civil society organizations, helping them to make their activities known at local and national level. I am editor in chief of a magazine, Modena cooperazione internazionale, created by a pool of local ngos and associations to awaken public opinion on solidarity and alternative lifestyles. I also cooperated with the website Albanianews.it, written in Italian by a group of immigrated students to inform mainly about Albania, Kosovo and Albanian communities in Italy. My work as a freelance basically consists in finding interesting stories and propose reportages or workshops about them. In these years, I always tried to improve my ability to catch hidden realities and narrate them in a clear and involving way, either through video, pictures or words. The toughest part of being a freelance is to me being able to sell my job and make it circulate, and sometimes I miss the presence of a director and an editorial office to learn from. Nevertheless, in these years I was awarded prizes and scholarships: research scholarship by Giovanni Agnelli Foundation in 2005, Ilaria Alpi journalistic prize in 2006, a grant from the Professional association of Journalists for a reportage I realized in Kosovo in 2008, special mention at Claudio Accardi journalistic prize in 2010, Giornalisti del Mediterraneo Bronze medal in 2012.
Freelance Videomaker
CurrentIn 2005 I started my part time independent activity in the field of video production. I work mostly in the documentary field, with different roles: usually author or producer, but sometimes also cameraman or editor. I self produce my work or sell it to different public institutions or private companies and associations. Some of my works were broadcasted on national tv channels. “Diversi sguardi olimpici”, realized together with Massimo Gnone, Claudia Ribet e Luca Rosini, won several prizes including Ilaria Alpi Journalistic Prize in 2006. Some of my videos were created through a participatory process in particular social situations, for example “Scorie”, written and realized in 2009 with a mixed group of local and refugee teenagers in Crotone, Southern Italy. I also realized a few videos documenting Ngos' activities in Madagascar, Ethiopia and Kosovo.
Writer
CurrentUntil now I was author of four books. The first, “Ritorno a Montefiorino” was written with my grandfather Ermanno Gorrieri, partisan in the Second World War, and published in 2005 by Il Mulino. In 2007 with my friend Silvia Sitton I concluded a two-years on-field research on artists' living and working conditions in Italy, “Non di sola arte”, financed and published by Giovanni Agnelli Foundation, Turin. In 2008 I realized two reportages with photographer Luigi Ottani, about people and stories of two multiethnic neighborhoods, in our hometown, Modena, and a close small city, Sassuolo: “Io sono di Braida” and “Zona Tempio”.
Ufficio Stampa (Press Office)
Public information officer for the city of Modena (http://www.comune.modena.it/cstampa/index.php)In spring 2005 I started working as a journalist at Municipality of Modena Press office. Our office was made by one editor in chief and 5 journalists. Office took care of public information, relations with journalists and we write a monthly magazine (80.000 copies, published since 1961) concerning public administration activities and city life. My duties in these years included writing articles or press releases, managing relations between local journalists and the public administration and organizing press conferences at local and regional level. Main themes of my activities are City Council debates, school policies, local economic policies, youth and cultural organizations. For the Municipality, I edited some publications on local finance and economy and realized some informative videos. In 2008, my office was awarded “Best press office of the year” by Headline Associated Journalists, for the information management during Luciano Pavarotti funerals in Modena (september 2007).These experience taught me how to manage information in urgent situations, how to mediate among different interests and, in general, helped me a lot to improve my social and communication skills. I learned that information coming from the public authorities should be well timed, expressed with simple words and always respectful of citizens' needs and ideas.
Researcher In Cultural Economics - Member Of Art Capp Group
In 2007 with my friend Silvia Sitton I concluded a two-years on-field research on artists' living and working conditions in Italy, “Non di sola arte”, financed and published by Giovanni Agnelli Foundation, Turin. We then realized a local research for Art Capp and presented our work in many public debates and conferences in Italy.http://www.capp.unimo.it/Forum/Art-capp.htm
Videoreporter
From summer 2003 to spring 2005 I worked as journalist and videomaker for a local broadcaster, Trc-Telemodena, on tv and radio news. I used to work in the daily news but also realized a weekly news programme concerning 5 small cities in Modena area, and in 2004 I was responsible of a daily programme on politics, culture, gastronomy and society in occasion of the Festival of Democratic Party in Modena. My job at Trc – Telemodena helped me to improve my technical skills, but above all I learned from my editor in chief and my colleagues the basic rules of tv and radio journalism.
International Volunteer
From summer 2002 to march 2003 I worked with Italian consortium of solidarity, a Ngo focused in the Balkan area. I started with a voluntary work experience (European voluntary service) for 6 months, and then participated in a Eu-financed youth information project in Serbia. Our duties as volunteers were concentrated in the social field, with animation activities with refugees or in conflict situations. In Bujanovac, South Serbia, together with volunteer Rocco Busi, I leaded a video workshop attended by Serbian and Albanian teenagers, aimed to reduce ethnic separation in the city. For this project we were also responsible for reporting to the donor, Unicef. In Pancevo, a city in Voijvodina not far from Belgrade, I was involved in the activities of GruPa, a local Ngo focused on environmental issues. I also was international observer for Osce at local elections in 2002. In general, the other volunteers and I helped Ngo's activities with English-Italian translations and coadiuvated the information functions writing articles and realizing videos or photo exibitions. I was also part of a work group for writing and presenting new projects at Eu level, mainly in the Youth programme. My Serbian experience helped me to learn how to work in a difficult environment and how to manage relations with people affected by a trauma like the war.Between 2001 and 2003 I also took part as a volunteer in exchange projects with rural areas of Brazil (Movimento dos trabalhadores Sem Terra in Goiàs) and city of Sao Paolo.
Organizer Of Prix Italia Festival And Assistant At Tg 2 Editorial Office
In 2001 and 2002 I worked with two different three-months contracts at Rai television, Italian public service broadcaster, in Rome. During my first contract I was involved in the organization of Prix Italia 2001, an international radio, tv and web award held in Bologna in the month of september. I organized two sections of the prize, dedicated to social and economic issues, edited the catalogues and manage the relations with the international jury. My second contract, in 2002, was in the editorial office of second channel, in a magazine called Tg 2 Net, addressed to a teenage audience. I managed researches in video archives and in the web and supported the editorial office in the daily broadcast. Both these experiences made me know the reality of public tv in Italy, but working there was possible only with temporary contracts and It was therefore quite difficult to afford living expenses in Rome.
Stagière At External Relations Office
After graduation I did a stage in the External relation area at Heineken. My duty was to support the organization of events, in particular the music happening Heineken Jammin' Festival in Imola (BO). I worked together with the office responsible in taking care of passes, guests and hospitality in general. This experience was very useful to me since I lived a big event from the inside. During the last days before the concert, work was very stressful and urgent but accomplishing duties in time and answering to the strangest requests and emergencies was always very exciting.
