Throughout my career I have been captivated by the molecular events underlying neurodegeneration and neuroprotection. During my PhD at the University of Cambridge I investigated mechanisms of communications between neurons and glia following neuronal injury using a combination of in vitro and in vivo models. Transitioning to my postdoc at UCL and the Francis Crick Institute, I became interested in identifying molecular degenerative pathways in amyotrophic lateral sclerosis using human induced pluripotent cells (iPSCs), with the ultimate goal of pinpointing disease mechanisms that can serve as therapeutic targets, with a specific focus on RNA biology. The data I generated throughout my carreer led to the publication of six first and co-first articles in high impact peer reviewed journals, plus a number of reviews and collaborative papers, with a total h-index of 10. Technical skills: Cell culture: extensive experience, including human iPSCs and their directed differentiation to astrocytes, motor neurons, and cortical neurons; primary cultures of astrocytes and neurons from mouse cerebral cortex, neural stem cells and various mammalian cell lines.
