I graduated (cum laude) in Cellular and Molecular Biology at University of Bologna (Italy) with a thesis in Neurochemistry supervised by Prof Antonio Contestabile.In 2001 I received the PhD in Cellular Immunology at The Theodor Kocher Institute in Bern (Switzerland) discussing a thesis on Chemokine Receptors’ internalization under the supervision of Prof Marco Baggiolini.As postdoctoral fellow, I performed research in immune cell signaling at The Babraham Institute (Cambridge, UK) and Temple University (Philadelphia, PA, USA), before working as Research Associate in the Dep. Of Pharmacology and Physiology, College of Medicine at Drexel U. (Philadelphia, PA, USA).Back to Italy in 2006, I focused my attention on engineered nanoparticles interaction with primary neurons and microglia at the Neuroscience Institute CNR (Pisa, Italy).Since February 2011 I work as Researcher in the Istituto Italiano di Tecnologia (Genova, Italy), and I serve as scientific member of the "Organismo Preposto al Benessere degli Animali (OPBA)". Understanding nanomaterials’ interactions with immune cells is one of my main research topics.I serve as Associate Editor in Nanobiotechnology for Frontiers In Bioengineering And Biotechnology, member Editorial Board Member of “Vaccines” (MDPI), "Exploration of Immunology" (OEP) and Topic Editor for “Nanomaterials” (MDPI).Reviewer for several journals as well as for the ANVUR (National Agency for the Evaluation of University and Research - Italy) and Polish “National Science Centre” founding agency (Narodowe Centrum Nauki – NCN, Poland).From 2022 to 2023 CEO (Amministratore Unico) of ATUQ srl.
