During my PhD I worked mainly on interactions between pyogenic streptococci (S. pyogenes and S. dysgalactiae subsp. equisimilis) and human extracellular proteins, such as collagen and laminin, with focus on their role in the induction of rheumatic fever. I acquired a strong background in molecular biology, protein biochemistry and microbiology. Moreover, I gained knowledge in the study of protein-protein interactions.▪ Studied pyogenic streptococci surface proteins role in inducing rheumatic fever▪ Elucidated molecular mechanisms of streptococcal M protein-induced autoimmune sequelae in an in-vivo model and analyzed triggered antibodies titer against collagen, myosinin and laminin▪ Conceptualized and designed a M-protein based vaccine protective against pyogenic streptococci in an in-vitro and ex-vivo model

▪ Developed and optimized a Microarray platform for detection of resistance genes in nosocomial multi drug resistance bacteria of clinical relevance such as. E. Coli, P. aeruginosa and K. pneumonie▪ Isolated pathogenic bacteria and prepared and interpreted antibiotic susceptibility tests

▪ Developed a PCR-based test for identifying early viral infections▪ Acquired experience with mammalian cell cultures and performed immunohistochemistry assays, Western Blot and FACS analysis
