Fatigue And Damage Tolerance EngineerAirbus Helicopters Jun 2016 - Jun 2023Donauwörth, Bavaria, GermanyWithin the frame of the fixed-wing aircraft projects A350XWB, A380, Single Aisle (A320 family, A320neo family), Long Range (A330, A330neo), the following activities were performed:1) Analysis and validation of metallic and composite structures for Fatigue and Damage Tolerance using Airbus methods, to assess design solutions from concept and structural development to certification and in-service maintenance.2) Coordination of the numerical activities with the external suppliers.3) Generation of FEA models based on engineering and manufacturing requirements by means of HyperMesh and Patran.4) Interpretation and post-processing of numerical results obtained via implicit linear and non-linear analyses (Nastran, Abaqus).5) Sizing of the structural components, parts and assemblies from fatigue point of view.6) Definition of fatigue loading spectra.7) Determination of fatigue allowable stress levels for dimensioning.8) Selection of manufacturing technologies, materials and standards.9) Definition of inspection programs based on fracture mechanic approaches.10) Definition and establishment of the certification/qualification fatigue documents, including also acoustic fatigue, windmilling, structural repair manuals.11) Fatigue test definition, support and analysis of the tests.Additionally, one of the main activities is the development and validation of advanced numerical tools to calculate the fatigue life of metallic parts in riveted areas, bolted joints, notches and fillets.Within the frame of helicopter projects (BK117, H135), analyses and validation of the rotor dynamic systems including blades, main rotor, main gear box, hydraulic actuators, engines, tail rotor and tail gear box are performed to assess design, repair and in-service solutions (concessions, daily repair request, major incident technical board). -
