About Giuseppe Simonetti

I have been passionate about designing and managing large computing infrastructure since many years. After several years of contribution to fundamental physics research, I am now looking for new challenges and additional responsibilities. I focused my studies in Informatics (High School Diploma) and in Nuclear and Particle Physics (Master and PhD in Physics) and involved in many research activities in Italy (the National Laboratories of Legnaro and Frascati, and Bari University) and in international laboratories (the KVI, Groninghen Netherland, the Jefferson Lab, Newport News Virginia USA, and the CERN, Geneva Switzerland). These gave me genuine practice and understanding about particle physics and an in-depth understanding of computing hardware and software. My work experience includes analysis of complex physics data, detector coordination and maintenance; designing and developing of medium-large computing systems and complex software; specification, designing, procurement, installation and commissioning of large optical fiber infrastructure (more than 20000 fibers) and of data center with huge data throughput (up to 3.5 TB/s).Actually, I joined the CERN Beam Department in the BE-CSS-ISA Section to participate in the engineering processes involved in the operation and evolution of the CERN Accelerator control centre.
