About Gregory R.
My treasure is your trash: I fix broken things, and I love every minute of it. My name is Gregory Raper, I’m 23 years young, I’m an Austinite, I’m a hater of the status quo, and I’m a lover of a good challenge. I started my career as an unpaid developer for a failed startup. I transitioned into a product manager role where I focused on maintaining the financial aspects of logistics software. Now I work debugging urgent issues in the software running inside gas stations across the world. For my education, I graduated from UT Austin majoring in Computer Science, with minors in Business and Communication Studies.My current role as a Software Engineer at PDI Technologies challenges me daily, but I love it. I find myself mostly working with C# and SQL Server, but I’ll pick up whatever tech stack is necessary to solve our customer’s urgent issues, from AWS to SSRS to VB. I walk through code with my debuggers, or trace code through logs, or sometimes I need some old-fashioned paper tracing. I diagram forgotten code, and I discover and disarm the metaphorical time bombs sometimes lying within it. I pick up the phone at 2am, or stay on a call to 5am. I track my work like a hawk, and if I ever find myself working on something that needs to be done twice, I leave an instruction booklet for those that come after me, well actually, only if I can’t automate it first!
