Group Commander responsible for leading and managing all aspects of learning and development for uniformed personnel and support staff within Tayside Fire and Rescue. Overall responsibility for TFR's annual training budget, which included the management of external support grants application process for further education opportunities for all members of the organisation. Represented the service on the Chief Fire Officers Association (Scotland) L&D Group to develop national training strategies for the 8 Scottish Fire & Rescue Services. Latter involvement within this national group focussed entirely on the requirements for L&D Reform in preparation for the amalgamation of the legacy services to create a single national service in April 2013.

Station Commander within TFR's Training and Development function. Responsibilities included the local management of the Scottish Fire and Rescue Services' L&D strategy. Particular focus was the coordination of the development to competent process for all uniformed roles in the organisation, which included the design of fully integrated electronic development portfolios. Played a key role in the design and development of a revised Incident Command Competency Framework for all uniformed managers from Supervisory to Brigade Manager level. Part of the design requirement strategies required the development of efficient, innovative solutions for IC exercising. This incorporated a blended learning approach relying on recognised approaches in the traditional practical sense, whilst exploring further development of latest software applications available to create large scale, challenging IC scenarios satisfying the desire for effective IC team learning opportunities.

Station Commander responsible for all emergency and events planning within Tayside Fire and Rescue (TFR). During this time developed a wide range of skills required to operate effectively in a multi-agency context, predominantly with Cat 1/2 responders. Involved heavily with the development of service contingency planning arrangements during the early stages of the Swine flu (H1 N1) pandemic 2009-10. This involved representing TFR's interests in conjunction with all other represented organisations within Tayside Strategic Coordinating Group (SCG). Events planning experience involved a comprehensive range of examples including high profile political party conferences, large scale multi-agency exercising in conjunction with Scottish Government, as well as major sporting events and music festivals.
