I joined Toptal on VP Engineering position. I was focused on following aspects: increase the performance of development team, introduce world-class development operations. I introduced Scrum process, agility and lean mindset to the team. In order to analyze the situation and to figure out bottlenecks in organization I used various approaches, include practices from the Theory of Constraints. As a result, we have created 5 scrum teams out of one (non-scrum). I introduced new level of collaboration in engineering team. We have significantly decreased time-to-market value (~3x).From operation standpoint, I introduced solid configuration management (ansible), migrated company to AWS, etc. That helped us to fix the problem with continuous integration, significantly improve time of build and make it work in-parallel

After acquisition by Microsoft, we were still doing same things as before. The biggest project of the whole team was to deliver Skype Video Messaging.

Qik was acquired by Skype at the beginning of 2011. We were spending some time on supporting Qik. At the same time we were changing our focus to new project with Skype.

Soon I changed the position to Team Leader. At that time, we continued to improve our component. We had to deal with high load (caching subsystem, code optimization, DB sharding). On the other hand, we have introduced configuration management systems - Chef and Vagrant, which helped us to scale as well. At that time, Qik had a lot of projects with different consumer electronics manufacturers, cellular operators, etc. I was leading the project on integration with huge cellular operator. We have introduced payed subscriptions to Qik.

I have joined Qik as Ruby on Rails developer. My goal was to fix issues with web and business logic platform (where possible), and start creating new version, mostly from scratch. We have introduced modern practices to the process, like RESTful approach, TDD/BDD, automated deployment, continuous integration.
