Tallysticks are an award-winning FinTech100 company on a mission to modernise, simplify and unlock value in global supply chains.I joined the mission from day zero and saw it through from an early vision, to a product ready to launch to a waiting list of beta users. As the only UI Designer at the company, I worked closely with, and received mentorship from the Head of Product. I enjoyed having the opportunity to play a key role in defining the product and owning the end-to-end design process for a number critical features, including:⇨ User on boarding with multi-factor authentication⇨ Digitally signing legally binding trade contracts⇨ Live document store with version management and multi-sided collaboration⇨ In-app instant messaging and notificationsWhile owning design of key product features, I:⇨ Created the interactive prototypes which were used to generate numerous conversions leading up to product launch.⇨ Implemented a visual design system which significantly increased design speed while promoting consistency as the product evolved.⇨ Organised, ran and documented user testing sessions which directly influenced the product spec⇨ Worked within a cross-functional environment across Commercial, Development and Leadership teams⇨ Regularly presented work to Head of Product, Development and the wider team

Completed an immersive 24 week UI/UX program based out of 1871; Chicago’s largest tech incubator. The program is led by industry experts and demands an extremely high standard of output throughout both training and client projects. This experience gave me a powerful appreciation for what can be achieved through a collaborative, tactful design thinking approach, and the importance of having clear rationale behind every decision. I worked with local Chicago businesses to help them grow their potential and remain competitive in their respective industries through user-centered and thoroughly tested design solutions. My clients included:Surplus RecordNorth America's leading online marketplace for used and surplus industrial machinery, dating back to 1924 and with a web presence since the dawn of the internet. I produced a complete redesign of their existing user interface which was based on extensive research, planning, user testing and constant iteration accordingly. I faced and overcame numerous challenges during this project, most notably:Balancing the needs of distinct groups - I had to respect and honour their existing user base while still utilising sufficient modern UI patterns to attract new business.Working within a specialised domain - The highly complex domain made adhering to user-centered design principles very challenging. Given the tight timeframes I compensated domain knowledge gaps by conducting additional user tests with experts in the field.DelivereeA B2B food delivery service who provide on-demand drivers to Chicago restaurants. I designed the tablet and mobile user interface for their new automated driver dispatch and monitoring system. This was another very challenging project with a potential scope far exceeding its timeline. I left with a greater appreciation of the importance of careful and well informed prioritisation, as well as valuable insights into designing a cohesive solution across multiple platforms and devices.

Worked on a team of in-house application specialists to provide technical advice, system diagnostics and software implementation services across multiple technologies. Including Windows Server, MS SQL Server, Oracle RDB, OpenVMS, WebLogic and JBoss. Because of the mission-critical nature of services I was responsible for, this role required a highly transparent, meticulous and methodical approach.Integrated new and updated digital solutions into existing IT infrastructure based on carefully planned schedules and big-picture thinking around any other dependencies.Responded immediately to any high priority system failures which required strong analytical and problem solving skills to pinpoint and document the cause, the problems I faced were frequently unique and often had multiple possible solutions. Participated significantly in sector-leading and award-winning initiatives to migrate the company data centre off site and introduce full disaster recovery capability.Was awarded Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL) Foundation Certification.

Working as Software Test Analyst at Ministry of Education was a challenging and exciting role. I was directly responsible for ensuring that the experience of users was in line with contractual obligations and met usability standards. This role taught me greatly about the importance of being able to think like a user, and quickly absorb sufficient domain knowledge to effectively represent a product's intended use in the live environment. During my four years in this role, I:Designed Test Cases and Test Scripts with clear correlation back to business and technical requirements which had been agreed upon by all stakeholders.Collaborated closely with software developers to succinctly articulate software defects and usability issues, as well as tracking progress throughout their entire lifecycle.Conducted thorough planning and scheduling of test sprints based on numerous factors including project timelines, technical constraints and human resource availability.Worked closely with customers on User Acceptance Testing as a final measure of a product's success.Presented concise test result metrics to management in order to completely and transparently portray the current state of product before going live.Was awarded International Software Testing Board (ISTQB) Test Analyst and Test Manager certifications.
