Responsibilities include: EVA Officer Lead (see below for detailed lead EVA officer description) support for International Space Station (ISS) assembly, logistics, and maintenance EVA conducted on ISS, including installation of International Docking Adapter (IDA); “Team 4” emergency EVA tiger team leadership for ISS external systems anomalies requiring immediate EVA development and implementation; on-going Mission Control Center-Houston (MCC-H) EVA console support for realtime EMU and ISS joint airlock nominal maintenance activities, Project engineering support for EVA training and console support products and techniques; Product and process improvement assessment of EVA training and operations related products based on Lean Six Sigma approach; assigned ISS astronaut crew training master plan and new course development; mentoring, motivation and inspiration of junior engineers in the EVA group and across NASA-JSC disciplines; problem and conflict resolution regarding EVA technical issues within the larger EVA and related communities; and EVA meeting/project support as required.

EVA Officer Lead for International Space Station (ISS) assembly and logistics EVA conducted on Space Shuttle missions STS-97, STS-114, and on ISS Expedition-1, 3, and 14. Responsibilities include: team leadership and oversight of all activities related to development, integration, testing, and execution of ISS EVA; management of all mission tasks related to Extravehicular Mobility Unit (EMU) systems, ISS joint airlock systems, EVA tools, EVA procedures, and EVA timelines; astronaut crew training plan development; crew training instruction; oversight of team instruction while training crew; oversight of all EVA mission product development including flight rules and EVA checklist procedures and timelines; realtime Mission Control Center – Houston (MCC-H) EVA console support of front control room (FCR) operations during execution on EVA; leadership of EVA console team support for nominal and contingency EVA operations; International Partner integration for Russian EVA including pre-flight training and realtime operations console support in MCC-H.

EVA TASK Lead for the EVA Development Flight Test (EDFT) for Space Station Program (SSP) conducted on Space Shuttle missions STS-80 and STS-87. Responsibilities included operations concept development for space station assembly EVA; hardware design support for space station EVA tools and interfacing hardware; hardware testing of EVA tools and space station interfacing hardware; EVA operations and integration support for external space station hardware designed for EVA assembly and maintenance; development on EVA procedures and timelines; neutral buoyancy testing of EVA hardware, tools, procedures, and timelines; EVA astronaut crew training; and real-time flight control support during Space Shuttle missions for all EVA tool and task related nominal and off-nominal operations.

Space Shuttle Extravehicular Activity (EVA) Task Engineer duties included: working knowledge of all EVA tools, Space Shuttle payload bay EVA support hardware, Space Shuttle Orbiter EVA contingency repair tasks, and Space Shuttle Payload nominal and contingency EVA tasks; support of EVA hardware preflight testing; project support for development and maintenance of EVA tools and tasks; EVA flight controller training; and EVA astronaut crew training.

Extravehicular Mobility Unit (EMU) spacesuit and Space Shuttle airlock systems duties included: working knowledge of all EMU and Space Shuttle airlock systems; support of EMU preflight testing; project support for development and maintenance of EMU and airlock systems, flight controller and astronaut crew training.

Performed Space Shuttle Mission Control Center (MCC) payload console operations in support of Space Shuttle missions. Responsibilities included: pre-flight mission simulations and testing of Space Shuttle Primary Deployable Payloads; realtime monitoring of integrated Space Shuttle and payload power, data, and control systems; voice communication with Payload Operations Control Centers (POCC) flight controllers for coordination of deploy and retrieval operations payload commanding and operations; identification and response to malfunctions; pre-coordination of all nominal and off-nominal payload deployment, free-flying, and retrieval operations with payload control team, Space Shuttle flight controllers and flight director prior to Shuttle astronaut crew execution. Prime missions included Space Transportation System (STS)-31, 37, 42, 49, 57, & 60.

Performed payload integration for numerous deployable primary payloads into the Space Shuttle Program including: Hubble Space Telescope (HST), Gamma Ray Observatory (GRO-Compton Telescope), Tethered Satellite System (TSS), Intelsat, EUREKA, SPARTAN, and lead for Wake Shield Facility (WSF). Duties included documentation of standard and unique power, data, and mechanical interfaces into the Shuttle Payload Bay, integration testing of payload systems into the Space Shuttle, documentation of operational requirements for deploy and rendezvous, participation in training of shuttle astronaut crew and flight control team, and preparation of payload operations documentation in ground control team and onboard deploy checklists.

Performed payload integration for numerous middeck payloads into the Space Shuttle Program, including lead for Fluid Experiments Apparatus (FEA), Polymer Morphology (PM), Canadian Space Vision System (SVS), Protein Crystal Growth (PCG). Duties included identification of standard and unique power and data requirements, integration of mechanical interface, documentation of operational requirements, training of shuttle astronaut crew, and preparation on operations checklist.
