About Glen Galaich

My professional mission is to advance equity, justice & dignity to historically marginalized communities, change the national conversation, and better serve others. As CEO of the Stupski Foundation, I’m invested in making significant strides in food security, economic empowerment & palliative care for individuals & families in the San Francisco Bay Area. I partner with philanthropists, policy makers & community leaders to amplify their impact on disadvantaged communities. With a rich background in both human rights & philanthropy management, I have a history of building relationships based on my honest outlook & ability to cut through the noise, outlining steps necessary to effect lasting change. As Deputy Director for the Global Philanthropy Forum & Human Rights Watch, CEO of the Philanthropy Workshop, & now CEO of the Stupski Foundation, I frequently take an entrepreneurial leadership approach, using data points to address difficult problems. I ask tough questions because I genuinely care about the outcome & keep a pulse on the communities that need help the most, connecting resources & influencing policies with their continued care & advancement in mind. With a PhD in political science, I’m always studying the fabric of our society, looking for ways to challenge the current reality of those living in vulnerable communities & driving sustainable social & political initiatives that reinvent how we give & live. Career Highlights: - Published thought leader & author of one of the top 25 most read articles in the American Political Science Review - Recipient of Colorado Broadcasters Award- Ph.D. from the University of Colorado in political science- CEO of major grantmaking foundation charged with spending down at least $300 million in assets over ten years- Led the merger between The Philanthropy Workshop West & Institute for Philanthropy, resulting in an org of 300+ active philanthropists

    Chief Executive Officer
Stupski Foundation Dec 2015 - Present
    San Francisco, California, Us
As a spend down foundation, the Stupski Foundation (Stupski) will invest all of our assets (approximately $250 million) in collaboration with community partners by 2029 to make the greatest possible change in our communities today. Stupski invests in the communities we call home, San Francisco and Alameda Counties and the state of Hawai‘i, across four areas: early brain development, food security, postsecondary success, and serious illness care. As CEO, I’m responsible for Stupski’s overall strategic development and direction. I use my leadership to work with others to develop an equitable organizational culture and empower a talented group of diverse, hardworking individuals who are committed to centering community-driven solutions that will create change that long outlasts Stupski’s spend down.
  • Forward Global
    Chief Executive Officer
    Forward Global Dec 2009 - Oct 2015
    San Francisco, California, Us
I successfully grew TPW West out of its re-start phase by repositioning the organization as a leading donor education and network of philanthropists. Leading the merger between TPW West and the Institute for Philanthropy to form the Philanthropy Workshop, I helped grow a global organization of 300+ philanthropists that annually produces two cohorts of strategic donors from offices in San Francisco, New York, and London. I also designed an innovative curriculum to increase an individual donor’s ability to advance a strategic plan, engage in due diligence, and maximize time, talent, financial capacity, and networks. Highlights: Led the re-launch of the Philanthropy Workshop West after its transition from the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation in 2009. Transitioned TPW into a sustainable donor education program with a business revenue model driven by 75% earned income and 25% grants.Through business strategy and merger, grew TPW West from a two person, $600,000 organization, into a ten person, $3M organization.Over four years, recruited 75 high net-worth members into the TPW Network.Developed the first donor education program in human rights in partnership with Humanity United and Article 3 Advisors.Conducted annual trips to Washington, D.C. to teach advocacy, and built annual international travel opportunities to countries including Liberia, Ghana, Rwanda, Israel/West Bank, and Myanmar.
  • Human Rights Watch

I built a marketing division within the development department of Human Rights Watch and increased the number of major gifts raised in the North America through a vast network of individual donors and institutional foundations. I oversaw development directors in Canada, Chicago, Houston, Los Angeles, New York, San Diego, San Francisco, Santa Barbara, and Washington, D.C., and was responsible for raising over half of Human Rights Watch’s $44M annual budget through major gifts, foundation grants, direct response marketing, online fundraising, and special events.Highlights: Developed a North American Human Rights Watch Council program offering members international travel to conflict zones, meetings with high level political officials, and regular communications with staff in the field.Over a three-year period, grew revenues in the San Francisco office from roughly $3M to over $5M, annually. In 2006-7, oversaw the production of the record-breaking $6.2M international Voices for Justice annual dinner tour.I was featured in the March 2008 edition of Inside Direct Mail for growing the domestic direct response program to produce $3M in gross revenues.
