Nuclear Power Plant Operator
New Hill, North Carolina, United States
Recruited to monitor and operate local aspects of the newest U.S.-based nuclear power plant, implement clearances, and maintain optimal emergency response proficiency and training. Drove process improvements, troubleshot, identified and solved system problems, and coached and mentored colleagues and cross-functional team members. • Achieved full Non-Licensed Operator (NLO) qualification in all watch stations at a three-loop, pressurized water reactor, including the Radioactive Waste Control Room. • Devised 50+ Procedure Review Requests during tenure to clarify and enhance processes; became certified in writing procedures/clearances and conducting technical reviews, LLRT, and VT-2 testing. • Upgraded from CFL to LED lighting; delivered a cost and labor reduction while mitigating fire-related risks throughout the plant. • Discovered an issue with the air compressor after-coolers, which was creating moisture in the Instrument Air System, along with a discrepancy in two service water pump startup processes; created a more efficient, automated method for running a 904-ton water chiller package and reduced the need for manual labor. • Invited to present on communication skills to 80 engineers at the first biannual U.S. conference for the International Youth Nuclear Congress (IYNC) and the North American Young Generation in Nuclear (NAYGN) annual meeting.
