The role of an apprentice was to work as part of the maintenance team to maintain and repair factory equipment and ensure the production line continued to run. Duties included responding to breakdowns, rebuilding and repairing damaged equipment, assembling and setting-up new equipment, fabricating and modifying tools and equipment for the production line, and carrying out routine checks and maintenance. Experience working as part of a team that included mechanical fitters, electricians, toolmakers and engineers, and working independently as required.
