Holy Ghost parishioner Jude Thomas Smith made his First Oath (First Vows) as a Brother with Glenmary Home Missioners on June 10, 2023. Brother Jude joined Glenmary in January, 2020. He has studied at Brescia Catholic University in Kentucky, Sacred Heart Seminary and Scool of Theology in Wisconsin, and St. Meinrad’s Seminary and Scool of Theology in Indiana during his formation to become a Glenmary priest. He also experienced life and ministry in Glenmary missions in Tennessee and Georgia firsthand during his pastoral and Novitiate year of formation where he discerned to move forward as a Religious Brother. Brother Jude is very grateful to the Holy Ghost parish family for their support and prayers as he reached this important milestone in his discernment with Glenmary. He especially wishes to thank his parents, Catherine and George Smith (deceased), as well as his Aunts Eloise Anderson and Godmother, Clare Tallo and family, and all members of Holy Ghost for their continued support and prayers of those discerning Religious vocations. Brother Jude will continue his studies at Xavier Catholic University in Cincinnati, focusing on Health, Wellness, and Spirituality, and a later focus on Nutrition and Teaching English to Students of Other Languages. Jude's Novitiate year ended in June 2023, and took his First Oath as a Brother with Glenmary on June 10, 2023 in Charleston, West Virginia. GLENMARY OATHOur Glenmary Oath is our promise before God to dedicate ourselves to the mission of the Glenmary Society, a covenant with the other Glenmary members and a commitment to the Glenmary Way of Life. This is a promise all of our Glenmary priests and brothers profess. The men who are in formation profess their First Oath upon the completion of the novitiate year, and renew that oath annually for three years before professing a Perpetual Oath, which is a commitment for life.Of my own free choice, I Jude Thomas Smith, a member of the Glenmary Home Missioners, for the sake of the Kingdom of God, do solemnly promise and swear before God to dedicate myself for my whole life to the missionary apostolate in the rural areas and small towns of the United States and to the Glenmary way of life according to the Glenmary Constitution and Directory.I am aware that the Glenmary way of life commits me to a special practice of poverty, chastity, obedience, and prayer. Thus bound in a covenant with the other members in the Glenmary community, I ask for their support and loyalty and pledge to them my own.
