Being a student is sometimes not easy when it comes to finances. In my Senior year I found an opportunity to make some spending money watching my favorite sport, baseball. Little did I know when I started that this was Synergy's first year operating in the baseball industry, and so their system was new and still evolving. I was trained in their baseball data entry system, DESI, and proceeded to watch college level baseball games and log key data points (who hit the ball, where did they hit it, how hard was it hit, etc). The data that we created and logged was then sent off to be used by scouts, coaches, and players.I gained great experience on sports analytics and more specifically in the baseball operations field. On top of that, I played a role in helping developing a new system by providing feedback on the logging software and proposing ideas to improve the system.

Working in a small office where it is wall to wall boxing memorabilia in Totowa, New Jersey, Main Events is a big time boxing promoter. They currently represent WBO Light Heavyweight Champion and IBA Light Heavyweight champion Sergey Kovalev as well as former heavyweight and cruiserweight champion Tomasz Adamek. They also promoted boxing legends Evander Holyfield, Arturo Gatti, Lennox Lewis, and Pernell Whitaker ( I learned a lot about boxing in my short time with Main Events).While with Main Events I got my first real taste of the sports industry, understanding event organization and the steps required to pull off such large events as boxing matches.I helped research and cold call local businesses in search of event sponsors, organized their digital library of past fights, as well as laid the foundation for a social media campaign involving the hundreds of pieces of memorabilia that is on display at the office.

In the spring semester of my junior year at Seton Hall, I was taking a market research course and the class was given a presentation by Steve Schlesinger (the CEO of Schlesinger Associates) and the director of HR Jaime Klein. At the end of the presentation they were offering Project Management internships, I spoke with Jaime, and a few months later I was a full time summer intern. While my main area of focus was on the project management side, I had the opportunity to wear many hats during my summer there. I set up almost 100 projects and prepared each job for the recruitment process, allowing PM's to direct their attention on active projects. I spent a week cold calling potential respondents, screening them by asking qualification questions, and signing them up for various studies being conducted at our office. I spent time calling scheduled respondents making sure that they were prepared to come in for their scheduled study and made sure that they have the necessary information.I performed administrative duties including updating client spread sheets, entering and organizing respondent data, and organizing project folders. Finally, I shadowed a project manager to see through a project from start to finish, including participating in client calls and correspondence, active project problem solving, and helping ensure the overall success of the project.
