Management responsibility for the VMware Cloud Services group, a DevOps organization of approximately 15 technical staff; capital budget allocation of approx. $13M per year.Within four months of creating the team launched the TWC VMware private cloud. This involved deploying compute and storage infrastructure to the national data centers and completing the initial CloudForms development to support self-service virtual machine provisioning and management.Responsible for setting the direction for the compute and storage infrastructure and vSphere architecture that will determine the environment's reliability, availability, and serviceability and to determine the features that will be provided by the CloudForms management platform that provides users the ability to self-provision virtual machines and to manage existing and new virtual machines lifecycles. Responsible for championing the benefits of virtualization and working with internal TWC groups to onboard them onto the TWC VMware private cloud.Team is responsible for deploying and operating the compute and storage infrastructure, all vSphere components, and the CloudForms management platform that supports the VMware Cloud environments at Time Warner Cable. VMware Cloud environments operate in five National Data Centers and six Market Data Centers consisting of approximately 600 ESXi hypervisors that support 5500 virtual machines. Implemented a robust, automated testing regimen that is executed when any changes are released to ensure that when fixes are deployed or new features added that any negative impacts are minimized. Responsible for managing the work queue from external and internal sources. External sources are the requests that come from other TWC groups for tasks that are not currently supported by CloudForms. Internal sources are deployment or operational tasks that must be performed or new development to expand the catalog of services offered by my team.

Served as the Principal Engineer of the Systems Engineering Systems Infrastructure group, managing a team that began with one engineer that grew to over 10 individual contributors. This group was tasked with engineering the Compute, Storage, and Backup standards and creating the systems and tools to support them. This included the Automated Server Configuration tool that automated the deployment and configuration of physical and virtual servers and a comprehensive suite of tooling to automate the initial configuration of storage environments, storage allocations, and operating and monitoring solutions. Set the vision for the Compute and Storage infrastructure for TWC, analyzed vendor offerings to fulfill this vision and oversee the team as they worked to engineer the systems and standards that brought the vision to reality. The standards took the form of a comprehensive matrix of supported servers, storage, and operating systems that were all vetted to interact well with each other, with automated deployment mechanism and then thoroughly tested to deploy accurately and to interoperate successfully. All development for all systems was done within my group and each system included an automated test suite to validate releases before they were handed off to Operations.

Responsible for setting the Compute and Storage architecture for the Operational Support Systems group at Time Warner Cable. This included analyzing vendor solution to meet business requirements. Conducted a storage bake off to determine the new Tier 1 storage array that would be used in the National Data Center. Responsible for creating an easy to use system to perform automated unattended installs of Solaris. Worked with the regions to deploy several hundred systems to act as pollers to retrieve cable modem configuration and performance data.

Served as the UNIX Team Lead that was responsible for supporting the development, testing, and production environments of all of the internal, global systems for UUNET. Aided in the architecture of the High Availability solutions utilized by all of the Core Systems applications, as well as implementing these solutions on a global scale.

Vienna, Va

Responsible for 24 hour availability of over seventy UNIX servers supporting development, testing, and production environments of nineteen different applications, including monitoring the health and active troubleshooting of the systems. Authored UNIX shell scripts to aid in the administration and monitoring of supported UNIX servers. Aided application developers in the architecture of their applications and the hardware systems on which they will reside including: requirements analysis, server configuration, maintenance and tuning, and backups.
