Glenn Gorner MICFor, BEd (Hons), ISA Certified ArboristGlenn Gorner graduated with a BEd (Hons) from St John’s College, York in 1982. He taught in various schools in Yorkshire, becoming a Deputy Headteacher in 1990.Throughout his teaching career, Glenn increasingly developed his passion for environmental education and took the opportunity to leave teaching and enter the environmental sector as a project officer on Leeds City Council’s Forest of Leeds Initiative in January 1995.Whilst working with the City Council, Glenn specialised in woodland management and became a Woodlands Officer in 1997. He continued to pursue his interest in all forms of tree management, qualifying as a ISA Certified Arborist (1998) and becoming a Charted Forester in 2008.He has developed a holistic approach to promoting and implementing a landscape scale of working, focusing upon achieving true connectivity through the natural and built environments. This enabled him to make a significant contribution to Leeds City Council’s emerging Core Strategy and it’s acceptance of the concept of Green Infrastructure.Glenn is currently Leeds City Council’s Natural Environment Manager and a senior manager in the Parks & Countryside service. He has line management responsibility for forestry, arboriculture; conservation and public rights of way.Glenn is a past President of the United Kingdom & Ireland Chapter of the International Society of Arboriculture (2004-05), a Honorary Life Member of tyhe ISA UK&I Chapter and a past Chairman of the Yorkshire Division of the Royal Forestry Society (2010 and 2011).
