When researching a business degree, I thought that the best option for a major was accounting because of my affinity with numbers. I was on the path to being a public accountant, until I completed an internship for Diamond International. During that time, I learned to apply the accounting theory in real life business situations. Following graduation, I accepted a corporate position in an area office of Diamond International and from there, progressed to an entirely different experience at the plant level where I dealt with cost accounting, manufacturing variance analysis and financial statement preparation and review. My career progression led to a position as Controller with a three-company international corporation and had experience with foreign currency accounting and futures contracts. In this role, I developed relationships with banks, accounting firms and insurance agents. My exposure to cash forecasting and Chapter II came when I worked for companies that were under- leveraged. As a CFO, I learned and demonstrated that teamwork was very important in completing the range of tasks required of me and my team. Because I'm naturally one who fixes things, I feel at home in this key leadership role since it often allows me to improve upon procedures and strengthen internal controls resulting in protection of the company's assets.
