I work to protect Nature and climate for all living creatures. I founded and lead Mighty Earth, a global advocacy organization. We work to break the link between agricultural expansion and deforestation, protect and restore wildlife, and transform major industries like meat, steel and aluminum. I'm proud of some of the big wins we've had like helping drive a 90%+ reduction in deforestation for palm oil and rubber, winning protections for endangered wildlife, helping ban imports of products linked to deforestation to Europe, and sparking major new decarbonization investments in the steel industry. One of the things of which I'm most proud at Mighty Earth is cultivating an "Obsessed with Impact" culture. That obsession is the characteristic that unites Mighty Earthlings: we work to remain laser-focused on impact. We evaluate our success based on results: square kilometers of forest protected, gigatons of climate pollution prevented, species of wildlife saved, and communities helped. As a result, we go where opportunity lies. And while we work on government policy, in many cases we focus on the private sector, where companies are often better positioned than governments to drive large-scale transformation. Going forward, we have pretty lofty goals: transform the meat industry to eliminate deforestation, shift to regenerative agriculture practices, and boost plant-based and cultivated protein; go beyond reducing deforestation to securing $10 billion in investments in restoration; and achieving the complete decarbonization of heavy industry. People are surprised sometimes at how much this relatively modest (but growing) team can accomplish, but I think ultimately the impact-obsessed culture and an amazing team can deliver outsized results on the biggest issues of our time.
