Green Timbers GP Limited manages one of the largest P3 accommodation infrastructure projects in Canada, encompassing design, build, finance and facility management and maintenance services and life-cycle refurbishment and replacement over the life of the contract. BCHS Healthcare (Surrey) GP Limited provides facility management, finance and building operations services to the innovative Jim Pattison Outpatient Care and Surgery Center in Surrey BC.

Provided innovative operational and strategic management to $2.8 billion health care entity and related entities. Responsible as Regional Director, Physician Relations and Compensation and as Senior Director, Commercial Initiatives.• Engaged and subsequently hired by a $2.8 billion health care entity to provide senior private sector CFO expertise to resolve financial and operational issues created by reductions in healthcare funding, leading surgical and medical services redesign of cost-effective and innovative services delivery models.• Negotiated and implemented long-term business restructuring initiatives, leading the service transformation and implementation of a $150 million infrastructure agreement in the largest private sector outsourcing transition to that time. Led the transition of health authority services, leading the RFP process, negotiating the $200 million contract and implementing the transition across 45 facilities. Engaged finance, legal, government and medical management, and obtained approval of board, government and senior executive, transforming how BC healthcare organizations provide non-medical services. Savings totalled almost $70 million per year, with the transition to the private sector providers of 2,000 unionized employees.• Reduced health authority-wide supply chain expenditures while improving response times and fill rates, and maintaining the quality of patient care. Engaged stakeholders, assessed existing practices and determined future requirements, ultimately outsourcing distribution services, delivering improved on-time fill rate, a reduction in staff, and an overall decrease in logistics costs. • Retained by a billion dollar private equity-owned Ontario healthcare organization to lead a year-long strategic financial management initiative. Led the financial and operational structuring of this proposed multi-billion dollar, long term business for one of Canada’s largest institutional and private equity investors.

Recruited by the private equity owners to integrate 4 acquired service businesses encompassing 2,000 employees, with mandate to grow sales and increase margins to improve profitability.• Evaluated the 4 business units, devised and implemented sweeping changes to position the business for growth, and structured the businesses under new operational leadership to provide national service and quality consistency, while ensuring empowered local management response to market and customer issues. • Slashed labour, supervision and other operational cost excesses to eliminate duplication, reposition the brand to focus on customer service, and reduce overhead costs by 11%, while creating a responsive customer-focused organization able to rapidly address customer needs.• Improved EBITDA under difficult financial conditions, through a focus on increased sales and improved margins from higher productivity and lower operating costs. Enhanced relationships with lenders and investors to maintain liquidity while dramatically improving operational and financial performance.

Recruited to devise and implement radical financial and systems infrastructure changes to this under-performing and under-capitalized international biotech products manufacturer and global egg product processor. • Transitioned from ad hoc accounting and reporting processes to effective systems-driven reporting structure. Instituted strong financial controls to reflect risk in international business and reporting environment, ensuring consistency of Canadian, U.S., and 3 European business operations. • Established trust and opened dialogue to control the conflict between the 2 controlling shareholders, focused management on strengthening the company’s 3 main businesses, and positioning the world-class egg processing business for sale to the U.S. market leader. Recapitalized the business with Canadian and Japanese lenders to ensure sufficient operating liquidity and funding for much-needed capital investment. • Formulated and successfully structured a joint venture with the U.S. market leader and the provincial egg marketing agency to grow the egg products business. Obtained significant new financing, spearheaded new marketing initiatives and profitably increased production, and then exercised an exit option to sell the organization’s share of the Joint-Venture, profitably exiting the business while generating significant cash.• Assumed leadership of neglected international dairy business unit, and led financial and operating restructuring of worldwide sales and distribution, with 4-fold increase in sales and 120% improvement in profitability in first year.

Recruited to provide strategic and operational direction to reposition the furniture, appliances and electronics retailer and to lead it out of bankruptcy protection. Led the senior leadership team to significantly improve retail and insurance operations, strengthening its highly levered balance sheet, improve store, distribution and insurance operations, and profitably expand the chain into Ontario.• Rebuilt the management team, implemented a world class distribution system to improve efficiency and accommodate growth, reducing inventory levels by $40 million during a time of store expansion, increasing product fill rates by 10%, and improving profits by 24% annually over 2 years. Enhanced store operations and product ordering capabilities to respond to individual store real-time sales results. • Strategically led the company’s response to competition, launching the Brick Mattress Store chain to compete with Sleep Country, quickly building the brand into a profitable format, and significantly broadening the range of warranty and insurance products. • Developed The Brick’s online presence, implementing web-based e-commerce, and introduced Air Miles chain-wide to create store loyalty. Created enhanced Brick Card, warranty and product insurance offerings, and improved margins through targeted products to individual customers and demographic groups.

Hired to provide senior financial leadership to this $200 million retailer of recorded music and electronics at a time of geographic expansion and increased competition into its Western Canadian marketplace. • Restructured the financial function to provide timely corporate financial reporting and store operating results to allow for improved response to competitive actions. • Led the strategic, operational and financial response to the arrival in Canada of a world class competitor, Virgin Records. Communicated with executives of music retailers in Europe and the U.S. to understand the impact Virgin Records made on their business and developed a plan which resulted in a complete sales rebound 60 days following the Virgin Records launch.

Led the financial management of Overwaitea Foods (a Jim Pattison Group company), a $2.6 billion diversified food wholesaler and retailer, operating eighty retail stores, franchised operations, and five distribution centers. Provided strategic leadership to successfully reposition the company as the market leader in branded food products. Provided strategic direction, reporting, forecasting and analyses to the retail, wholesale, and distribution businesses. Restructured financial processes to improve the quality and timeliness of reporting operating results. Evaluated operational and expansion proposals, led acquisitions and divestitures, and integrated the finance and systems departments of two acquired $200 million companies. Led company-wide financial management and systems improvements, effectively leading the finance function as the organization became Western Canada's largest food retailer.

Managed the financial affairs of the IKEA Companies in Canada, including the retail, real estate, and distribution operations, a $200 million business owned by IKEA worldwide.
