About Glenn Mcgee
Glenn is Dean of Admissions at Salem College, the oldest American educational institution for girls and women, which has seen its incoming class size increase by more than 400% across a period of 3 years. His career as a professor and researcher spans 29 years and has focused on ethical, legal, and social issues in genetics and biotechnology, including 3 authored and 3 edited books and more than 200 peer-reviewed articles. He is the founder and for 11 years was editor-in-chief of the American Journal of Bioethics. He has received more than $4 million in federal and foundation research funding for his research. Glenn has given named lectureships at Harvard, Yale Law School, Johns Hopkins, King’s College London, Max Planck Institute, the National Archives, McGill, UNESCO, and the CDC, authored monthly columns for The Scientist, Hearst Media and MSNBC, and has commented on bioethics in most major news programs and newspapers. Immediately prior to joining Salem, Glenn was Deputy Provost, Special Assistant to the President for Institutional Effectiveness and Planning, and Professor of Health Policy and of Management at University of New Haven (2013-21). He has developed and lead several academic programs in bioethics, held full-time tenure line faculty positions at University of Pennsylvania (1995-05), Albany Medical College of Union University (05-08), and the Center for Practical Bioethics (09-11). He has also held two endowed chairs, been tenured both in medical ethics and in management, and held secondary appointments in public health, law, political theory, philosophy, history and sociology of science, and nursing.
