Glenn Micallef is a technocrat with extensive experience in Governmental and European Affairs. MrMicallef holds a Bachelor’s degree in Commerce, with Honours in Economics, and an MA in EuropeanPolitics, Law and Economics, both from the University of Malta. He also attended courses on EUnegotiations at the College of Europe in Bruges and was selected for the prestigious Future LeadersInvitation Programme (PIPA) by the French Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs in 2023.Upon completion of his studies, Mr Micallef moved to Brussels to contribute to the Socialists andDemocrats (S&D) Group in the European Parliament. Following his stint at the European Parliament,he joined the Maltese Ministry for EU Affairs, initially as a Research Analyst focusing on theCompetitiveness Council configuration, then Head of the Unit responsible for external relations andpreparations for the Maltese Presidency of the Council of the EU. In 2017 Mr Micallef was eventuallyappointed Director General of Malta’s EU Coordination Department within the Foreign AffairsMinistry, in which capacity he led various negotiations on draft EU legislation and monitored thetransposition of EU Directives and the implementation of EU legislation.Whilst heading the EU Coordination Department, Mr Micallef spearheaded the Brexit Unit and thePreparedness Task Force, playing a pivotal role in the Article 50 Task Force negotiations.In 2020 Mr Micallef was appointed Head of Secretariat of the Prime Minister of Malta Robert Abela aswell as Advisor to the Prime Minister on EU Affairs and European Council Sherpa. In these roles, MrMicallef contributed significantly to negotiations on the Multiannual Financial Framework (MFF)budget of the EU, and was on the team which managed to secure a record €2.27 billion in EU funds forMalta. Mr Micallef was also responsible for a number of Inter-Ministerial and sectoral initiatives ofnational importance, such those pertaining to Anti-Money Laundering, Counter Terrorism Financingand the Rule of Law.Mr Micallef also held the esteemed position of President of the St John’s Co-Cathedral Foundation fromJuly 2021 until July 2024.
