Designing and implementing a shareholder database with a web front end to replace an old DOS-based system. This solution used a LAMP foundation and jQuery rich front end.

This was a specially created position to address SLA requirements for core product support to customers within the APAC region. This unique role allowed the company to provide timely level 3 support that involved product development and defect resolution to the level 2 support team in this region.The development langiages used were C and Python for the back end and Java on the front end. The development process followed an Agile methodologyand used Jira & Confluence forteam collaboration.

This role included designing the implementation of customer business rules using the product's (Intermediate) proprietary C-like scripting language and Python. It also included level 2 customer support, software installation and some core product customisation (using the C programming language) as well as filling a team leader role.The role required working closely with customers in the APAC region (including Optus, Telecom New Zealand, Reliance (India), Celcom (Malaysia), as well as customers in Indonesia, Taiwan, Brunei and Fiji), and liaising with the pre-sales and BA personnel within the company.I was also responsible for the administration of the Melbourne office servers, which included a number of different flavours of *NIX - Tru64, Solaris, HP-UX, RedHat (including RedHat clustering on blade servers), and Ubuntu. Administration involved O/S installation, setting up development environments, automated backup using Amanda, creation and maintenance of the office intranet (using PHP & JQuery), and maintenance and support of office personnel laptops.My role included:• Project design, producing a design document for development• Project development & testing, including a test plan deliverable• Product installations, often on-site• Customer support (including disaster management and recovery)• Proof of concept development• Pre-sales technical support

This role revolved around the development of Total Airspace and Airport Modeller (TAAM) in C, and later in C++. From this a custom offshoot was developed, Aircraft Activity Display System (AADS) which combined the simulation capabilities of the TAAM engine with the US FAA flight radar feed to provide an accurate display of all US airborne aircraft. This was developed specifically for FedEx.Secondary parts of this role included software installation, customer support and customer training.

This position was in the Meteorology department of Melbourne Uni, and initially involved porting parts of the department's Global Circulation Model to a Floating Point Systems array processor. This effort resulted in a 50% improvement in model run time.From there my role developed into supporting the GCM model runs, averaging model data, and producing graphical plots for use in reports and publications.I was also involved in installing and setting up the department's first Sun Microsystems computer, writing a graphical data display for a postgraduate's polar ice-cap model, and designing an electronic circuit to manage the department's printer from the ascii terminals in the computer room.
