This management role required advanced skills in professional communication, collaboration, analysis of complex issues, leadership of numerous personnel, and creative problem solving. As the deputy state ombudsman, I was tasked with the promotion of a health advocacy program for seniors across one-quarter of Oregon. This assignment required recruiting, training, managing upwards of 65 staff ombudsmen, and meeting with them locally to evaluate their work, and mentor them to greater effectiveness.  Manage: Provided supervision, technical assistance and regular support over a network of approximately 65+ statutorily authorized ombudsmen. Perform regular review of subordinates’ activities, awarded exceptional efforts, and terminated those who could not follow program guidelines. Consult: On a daily basis provided in-depth consultation to industry facility managers/owners, multidisciplinary health care provider staff, medical professionals, attorneys, state regulators, and law enforcement representatives. Train: Conducted frequent training sessions around the state leading to formal certification of program staff, and then continued to provide monthly support and continuing education sessions.  Evaluation/Assessment: Made unscheduled visits to hundreds of long-term care facilities across Oregon, assessing clinical quality and adherence to civil and resident rights.
