Did you see that gap in my resume? That’s my proudest accomplishment… really!One day in late March at the age of 25, I decided to leave my comfy cubicle, complete with decor from the Target Dollar Section, to pursue the ultimate adventure of long-term travel.Let’s be real, I had no idea what I was doing. But pouring my energy into an idea I’m passionate about, no matter how daunting, is one of my greatest strengths.I sold everything that wouldn't fit into my 40L Kelty Backpack at my “Traveling the World” sale and hopped on a one-way flight.Over the course of nearly 3 years I backpacked solo through Europe, spent a month in the heat of Thailand, lived with a Danish family, trekked through the mountains of Nepal, lived in the backcountry of Alaska and experienced countless misadventures and “pinch me” moments along the way.Any doubtful thoughts I had about leaving my corporate job or missing professional opportunities were nowhere to be found as the lessons, insights and revelations came flooding in.Being immersed in multicultural experiences has shaped my character and belief systems, translating directly to my work ethic and values:1. Even with preparation, you'll find yourself in unforeseeable circumstances: I’ve learned to adapt quickly to ever-changing environments and unpredictable situations. Ultimately strengthening my problem solving and decision making skills while managing stress. This ability to stay flexible and find solutions in various scenarios fuels my desire to make the best of every situation.2. Memorable experiences are shaped by meaningful connections: When I reflect on my travels, there's one constant: the people. Whether it be ensuring guests are heard, valued and taken care of, or my co-workers need support and encouragement, travel has taught me that creating meaningful connections heavily influences our experiences.3. Nature is a powerful element to our well being: My time spent in Nepal and Alaska truly engraved in me the importance of wild landscapes to our well being.
