I led a very exciting project about the impact of Microfinance in Europe.The project involved the Comptrasec (University of Bordeaux), the University of Geneva, the European Network of Microfinance (ENM) and The European Financial Inclusion Network (EFIN).The project was funded by the European Investment Bank (EIB) Institute in collaboration with the International Labour Office (ILO).

Part of a three years research project called "Personal microcredit: an appropriate response to households' financial needs?".My work focused on exploring the financial needs of individuals facing difficulties accessing mainstream consumer credit and examining the feasibility of introducing personal microloans to respond to these needs in Ireland. The project is co-funded by the Région Aquitaine in France and the Irish Central Bank and the Social Finance Foundation in Ireland.

Research and policy project about financial inclusion in Ireland.This study funded by the the Department of Social Protection (formerly Combat Poverty Agency) analysed financial inclusion policies implemented in Belgium, France and the UK in order to inform Irish policy makers. Some of the recommendations made were included in the Irish Strategy for Financial Inclusion published by the Department of Finance in 2011.The report was officially launched by Professor Patrick Honohan, Governor of the Central Bank.

During the time I was carrying out my PhD, I was employed as a Research Officer by the National Federation of the Savings Banks on the basis of a Convention industrielle de formation par la recherché (Industrial contract for training through research) from 2002 to 2005. Jointly funded by the Department of Education and the company, this contract allows PhD students to carry out their research in line with the interest of the company. As the National Federation of the Savings Bank had a legal obligation to tackle financial exclusion, my role was to assess existing responses to financial exclusion and to contribute to the design of specific responses implemented by the Savings Bank. The impact of my research was evident in the subsequent implementation of dedicated debt advice branches, called Parcours Confiance, in every regional Savings Bank.
