My Agile DevOps team maintains a public system for USSPACECOM at Vandenberg SFB that disseminates space situational awareness (SSA) information to international military partners, satellite owners and the public. * In 2017, we used physical systems operated out of a public co-location facility. I engineered and moved physical systems to VMware running on several physical hypervisors.* Our team decided to explore moving to public cloud. I was one of the primary team members that investigated various cloud offerings and we selected Google Cloud Platform (GCP). * I volunteered to do a crash course in GCP and spent about 20 hours a week in GCP training in addition to my regular 40 hours, at least 500 hours total.* I was the team lead that began our initial occupation of GCP. I designed and built our initial GCP projects, networking, and cloud security policies. I designed and engineered changes to our on-premises networking (Cisco ASAs) to GCP Cloud VPN to allow for secure connectivity between our on-premises environment to our new projects in GCP.* I configured and used the GCP tool “Migrate to Virtual Machines” to move from on-premises VMware to our projects in GCP. We initially occupied the GCP region in Los Angeles. We moved all our systems to GCP and disposed of all our physical equipment. We are 100% GCP and no longer have any colo.* I was the proponent for using “strangler pattern” to incrementally replace parts of our legacy systems with new GCP components, minimizing risk and disruption. We use native GCP tools like Cloud Run, Cloud Scheduler, Cloud Logging, etc. as appropriate.* I write and maintain code, mostly IaC scripts written in yaml (Ansible), HCL (Terraform), and bash (Linux). I maintain multiple GitLab repos for various purposes. My IDE of choice is PyCharm, with plugins for various languages. Most of my days now I make branches, write code, submit merge requests, merge approved code into repos, and deploy code.

I serve as a tier 3 multi-functional system and network administrator for customer facing applications and web sites on VMware infrastructure. I am responsible for 5000+ VMs, in 2 data centers. Design and build storage infrastructure on NetApp and Nimble. System administrator for large groups of Linux and Windows VMs used for applications. Made and modify various scripts used for system administration. Provide direct support to DBA team with Linux VMs for Oracle and MySQL. Create and deploy Juniper firewall, switching and routing systems and configurations. Create and maintain F5 load balancer devices. * Built new Juniper switching infrastructure with port security to support 200+ desktop workstations, increasing security for our facility by not allowing “random” users to plug into our network* Built out new Red Hat Satellite based patching and configuration system to better manage Linux machines, saving many man hours over patching with legacy methods.* Provided technical support to junior engineers and documented our DevOps processes, including standard operating procedures, and engineering documentation.

As technical lead, provide authoritative advice to leadership and manage a team of 10 IT specialists, including support of the data centers, all physical and virtual servers, storage and backup systems, and monitoring systems at all SJSU locations and disaster recovery sites. Ensure operations comply with all relevant security regulations and policies. * Built VMware data center with Cisco blade servers and NetApp SAN storage and migrated hundreds of client VMs from legacy data center, allowing us to retire the legacy data center.* Built out new infrastructure to support enterprise wide Sophos antivirus scanning for Windows servers and workstations, improving enterprise security campus wide.* Provided technical support to junior engineers and documented our DevOps processes, including standard operating procedures, and engineering documentation.

As technical lead of the Servers Group, I am responsible for the data center, all physical and virtual servers, backup and storage systems, and monitoring systems at all Cal Poly locations and disaster recovery sites. Ensure operations are in full compliance with all relevant security regulations and policies. * Designed and deployed VMware ESXi virtualization infrastructure and NetApp SAN based replication to CSU Monterey Bay to serve as Cal Poly disaster recovery site* Designed and created of new VMware ESXi virtualization infrastructure and secure Windows domain for PCI use, so on campus merchants could securely accept credit cards* Migrated existing document management systems into Cal Poly’s new Jira infrastructure for standard operating procedures, and engineering documentation.
