Lead a team of 8+ engineers in a cross-functional effort to migrate a large monolithic application to the cloud. Developed and executed on a multi-quarter project plan to incrementally achieve the migration. Leading efforts to reduce complexity and confusion around legacy code deployments and monitoring. Simplified reporting around the viability of an ongoing code deployment. Originally hired as one of the first members "Global SRE"​ team, I had exposure to all the core infrastructure components which allow Twitter's systems to function (LDAP, config management, DNS, etc). Primary responsibilities included: Break-fix, hardware re/decomm, deployments, internal engineer support.After a SRE re-org I became embedded with the Developer Productivity/Engineering Effectiveness team on making sure Twitter's engineers can reliably write, test, build, and deploy their code. Within this organization I was also part of a smaller team whose main focus was Git. During my time on this team I have become something of a Git expert. I took the Git service from a misunderstood unreliable mess, to a scalable, fault tolerant, production service (complete with SLA's!).In addition to Git, I had an opportunity to work with many internal teams, and help them use our tools more efficiently, or find ways to make our tooling work better for them. Senior member of a small operations team overseeing the reliability and operability of the production website, and backend systems. Personally lead the project to convert from bare metal to virtualized (VMWare/VSphere) deployments. This resulted in a drastic reduction in DC requirements as well as simplifying overall system configurations. During this transition, I was also migrating all systems from the legacy CFEngine configuration management system, into Chef. Project lead for improving monitoring reliability, and reducing monitoring latency. This work primarily included performance tweaks and configuration changes for Nagios and Graphite. Redesigned LDAP and DNS infrastructure, reducing overall system count, and operational complexity.In addition to the projects that I drove, listed above, I was also responsible for all other core services and infrastructure required to keep the site up. Load balancers, several petabytes of SAN storage (Polyserv, IBRIX, EVA, NetApp, etc), network switches, etc were all within the scope of my team's support.
