After working in production in San Francisco following grad school, and three years as a freelancer in Manhattan, I returned to my hometown of Chicago and founded Modio Media Productions, Inc. in 2006, an award-winning television and video production company that creates both non-fiction entertainment and branded content for small and top-tier clients. As a seasoned writer, producer, and director, my work has been seen on DISCOVERY, A&E, CNN INTERNATIONAL, CNBC, HISTORY, GEOGRAPHIC INTERNATIONAL, THE WEATHER CHANNEL, and PBS, among others. From one-hour series spotlighting engineering marvels around the globe to a feature-length documentary profiling one of the most controversial off-shore sailing races in recent times, my relentless curiosity drives my passion for production 25+ years on. Currently based full-time in Tuscany between Florence and Arezzo, my Italian fluency and ability to navigate sticky bureaucracy have served me well as a fixer and field director/produce for a diverse lineup of clients, from global news-gathering organizations to small- and large production companies and entertainment networks. The skills I acquired working in television primed me for producing branded video content. It's a process I love and that comes naturally. Simply put, I translate concepts into video to tell a good story. I help clients define the style and voice. Storyboard ideas. Create a workable production plan and budget, hire crew and talent and produce the shoot. In the studio, I mold the raw footage around the script. I revise, and revise again. I write on-screen text and chime in on graphics and oversee edit and sound mix before delivering the final video to the client.

Over the past two decades, I've been a guest speaker at symposia, film festivals, colleges and universities, public libraries, and cultural organizations in the U.S. and Italy. I skew presentations to mirror attendees' interests, whether the nuts-and-bolts of producing an original documentary, distributing and selling it to the right venue, or simply how I come up with ideas to pitch to a specific market. In October 2021, I did a Zoom talk for a course "History of Italians in Chicago," part of Loyola University's Italian American Studies Program. Show less -
