My research is focused on the incompatible interaction between grapevine and downymildew through a systems biology approach based on lipidomics, transcriptomics and bioinformatics.I have also acquired solid background on several molecular biology and biochemistry techniques such asnucleic acid extraction, quantitative real time PCR, Gas chromatography and Thin layer chromatography.I have discriminated and characterized, for the first time, the lipid and fatty acid profiles, as well as their modulation, of two grapevine genotypes, resistant and susceptible, upon Plasmopara viticola inoculation. From this work I was able to provide strong evidences that lipid signalling has a crucial role in the first steps of grapevine defence mechanisms, in agreement with recent findings by other groups, reinforcing the importance of lipids and lipid-derived molecules in the establishment of grapevine immune response against downy mildew.
