Manager, Utilities Engineering
Current• Plans, directs, manages, supervises and evaluates all Utilities Engineering Division staff, programs and activities.• Provides high-level engineering and other technical advice and assistance to the Director regarding planning and execution of Utilities Engineering functions and programs, and the maintenance, operation, improvement and expansion of the City's Utilities infrastructure.• Manages construction projects and activities for utilities and other projects, whether performed by in-house staff or contractors.• Coordinates utilities and other projects with principal staff of other City departments, county departments and appropriate state agencies.• Manages and/or coordinates major Departmental and citywide special projects and administrative programs and activities as assigned.• Provides technical assistance to the Director in developing long-range plans to meet the City's future needs for water and wastewater.• Focuses on employee retention by using communication skills, active listening, and counseling with employees, providing objective feedback to subordinates, motivating the workforce, and using effective conflict resolution skills.• Recommends and/or hires high-quality candidates both internally and externally for employment.• Develops subordinates by providing training, developmental opportunities and career development discussions.
