As Canadian Drilling & Completions technical applications lead and analytics specialist, we built a robust, data-driven environment to enhance our understanding of our engineering field operations. Through the successful and implementation of the Peloton suite of applications (WellView/SiteView/MasterView) along with custom configuration and some custom development, we were able to tailor our field and office reporting approach to match our business strategy and achieve a robust and consistent acquisition of data. To harvest value from data collected, we deployed Spotfire as our primary analytics tool and were able to gain instant insight into efficiencies and inefficiencies in our processes. With this insight, we were able to tweak and optimize operations on the fly to reduce costs and save time. We are currently working on further custom development, workforce re-training, software integration and rolling out application updates to enhance competitiveness and gain an edge over competition.

As the main developer and project lead to redevelop and customize the D&C reporting architecture for Progress, we redesigned and tailored the data collection and reporting environment to meet the needs of the field and office operations groups, asset teams, accounting, and the external regulatory bodies. Many processes were changed, users were retrained and new workflows were implemented. Most reports for data collection and for data output were enhanced or redesigned and many new reports were added. The project took on a multi-faceted approach to streamlining data collection and reporting using various methods such as report simplification, custom WITSML imports, smart custom data auditing tools and custom VBA reporting to drastically reduce the need for engineering, operations and technical staff inputting, exporting and massaging data.

With over a decade of work in reporting, analytics and leadership (much around operations and engineering), I have an instinctual understanding to the interconnections between various departments and many of the issues each struggle with. As a WellView Administrator and the Spotfire Specialist in the Canadian Drilling & Completions group, my team led the organization through various WellView/SiteView upgrades and provided all field and office support throughout the changes and into steady state. I was responsible the training/retraining of hundreds of office and field staff from all areas of the business including engineering, geology, land, accounting, field and various other technical groups. In addition, I was tasked with designing and configuring all drilling based WellView reports and workflows. Throughout all transition phases, 24/7 office, field, and field office support was provided with field visits when necessary. After successfully achieving a gold standard of data collection we moved into the phase of enhancing the areas of analytics and data visualization. Using Spotfire and several data sources (various databases and some ad-hoc) from the Canadian business unit, I was able to provide a proof of use case for Conoco Corporate HQ to justify procuring a global Spotfire license to make Spotfire the global analytics standard. With a global license in place we moved into the final phase of this project by creating a suite of Canadian dashboards and reports to empower individual users to consume and tweak the analysis for their individual roles. After steady state had been realized, the final dashboard developed highlighted the whole well process ranging from the stages of mineral rights acquisition, lease selection, licensing and lease construction, and through to drilling and completions on to well production.

As an analytics specialist collaborating with the experts at Entero, we sought to integrate Entero's Mosaic (reserves management/evaluations software) with Spotfire to dashboard and visually display oil and gas reserve, budget and evaluation data demonstrating the power of applying visual analysis to the underlying data. The resulting dashboards and analysis was applauded by management and presented to Entero's user base at the Entero 2010 UGC.

Managed the head office network environment for a large (500+ person) dental supplier and manufacturer. Looked after supporting most software and hardware systems and coordinated and managed 3rd party solutions as needed. Performed various weekly/monthly/quarterly reporting tasks for upper management and the president including remotely extracting and consolidating data from many North American satellite offices, creating and updating sales projections and summary reports, and creating divisional and customer category profiling reports. Worked to automate and streamline the reporting processes and worked to support 3rd party vendors in implementing a multi-dimensional data store and analytics reporting environment.
