IFG-O'Connor provided short term finance by way of invoice discounting. It was a niche product where as little as one invoice could be discounted if that was the cutomer requirement. This type of financing allowed start-ups to create a track-record for the more traditional lenders, who demanded some trading proof. In that sense IFG - O'Connor was not looking for repeat custom in that depedence on our services meant a failure on the client's part to make the progession and ultimately it did not bode well for long term viability.Practical advice was provided in all aspects of business and that led naturally to the Coaching and Consulting arm now known as GOCPglobal.

As a Board it was our responsibility to evaluate each proposal made to and by WDC staff. Loans, grants and share options were among the facilities we provided. The Western Investment Fund (WIF) is the evergreen facility that drives much of the WDCs endeavours. The WDC supports the medical devices' sector, renewables, creative west and not-for-profits to name but a few of its areas of interest. Each of these sectors has its own challenges and all require careful evaluation of all the metrics.

The citizen group established to improve prison conditions collaborated with the Govenor and staff to introduce initiatives at Loughan House Detention Centre. Some of these included the establishment of a Prisoner Committee, library, laundry and car valeting services. Our Committee introduced a “Bikes to Africa” scheme whereby unwanted bicycles are refurbished and shipped to African countries where they are much sought after. We also identified suitable long-term inmates from other institutions for transfer into the facility to stabilise the prison population. Absconsions were reduced substantially in this 'open facility.' The Committee continued development of work-group programmes to assist voluntary organisations including travel of some work-groups cross-border.
