Circular procurement is not easy. It affects many people and processes. Circular procurement requires change of the organizational processes and culture, but also of the behavior of all people involved. I mainly focus on public authorities to make this switch, by giving training and teamcoaching. In order to be an effective circular client, organizations have to be aware of internal consequences and accept these. They should also be internalizing the knowledge of suppliers and accept that not all answers will be clear from the start. Therefore, circular procurement requires guts and perseverence. I am pleased to guide my clients through this interesting process of exploring.My backgroundI was educated as a lawyer, but soon concluded that I was not interested in blowing up one perspective at the expense of the common interest. During a year long world trip I found that our most urgent common interest is reaching a sustainable society. Therefore I made a switch to sustainability consultancy in 2010. Since 2013 I have been involved in circular procurement on a daily basis and I believe that this subject has a massive potential impact for sustainable change. But we need to speed things up! With my action focussed and provoking approach I help teams and organizations to do things DIFFERENT. I guide them to dare to go off the beaten track and experiment. By accepting that we learn the quickest by falling and getting up again. Just dare and do!

In my role as senior consultant I was focused on circular procurement. I assisted in circular tender procedures varying from buildings, to roads, bridges, furniture and clothing. Also I advised on development the circular (procurement) policy of my clients. Over the years Copper8 developed circular procurement trainings, which I played a big role in. In 2018 I was co-author of the book 'Circular procurement in 8 steps', which has been widely used by procurement professionals and has been translated into English, French and Portuguese for use abroad. My clients consisted of provinces (such as North Brabant, North Holland, South Holland), municipalities (such as Amsterdam, Utrecht, Leiden, Emmen, Woerden), universities (TU Delft, University of Utrecht), contractors (TBI group, Dura Vermeer), and other (semi) public authorities (such as Rijkswaterstaat, UWV, Alliander).From all the different product groups and organizational challenges I learned that the biggest challenge lies in giving up certainties. Circular procurement means a different way of procuring, where the process and the end result are still not 100% clear when you start off. I have helped out my clients to overcome this uncertainty. The next challenge is including all relevant colleagues so the organization as a whole can change. My belief is that this is best done from a training perspective, so I chose to start up my own training company, HowToChange, as per January 2022

In my job I assist (Dutch) companies, governmental organizations, NGO's and students by answering questions concerning sustainability and CSR. Besides having broad knowledge on (implementing) CSR and sustainability issues, my job also includes matchmaking between companies from our network. Furthermore, I assist my colleague Michel Schuurman in several Communities of Practice re the circular economy, which communities are initiated by MVO Nederland.

I assisted companies and governmental organizations and did research on sustainable projects, such as achieving Milennium Development Goals (MDG's) for several municipalities, water saving possibilities for a housing cooperative, and implementing a paperless office through alternative working practices (Het Nieuwe Werken).
