An infinitely scalable corporate food program that delivers based on each employee's individual food preference on taste, quantity and nutrition.--Zing started off as food pre-ordering app for college cafeterias, and was backed by 100X while all of us were still in college! Even though the product was getting adopted by students in multiple universities across India, we realised that the gross margins and AOV were too low (mostly in premier government run institutions) to ever get us to profitability. After a couple of pivots, we realised that Food@Workplace is a problem that is unsolved for many companies - individuals have different tastes, and preferences, and are now more health conscious than ever. Traditional corporate catering fails to serve these requirements. We wanted to make it more individual driven, healthy and better for thousand of offices and tech parks, that host lakhs of employees every day.We completed 70,000+ orders delivering to employees at the workplace. However, by the time we reached this scale, we had become terribly cash crunched. We failed to raise any further rounds and eventually had to cut down salaries and layoff almost the entire team. It was still very difficult to keep the operations running and we had to finally shut down Zing in April 2024.
