This was a contractual position for five months that started in August and was extended until April. In my role, I wrote copy and provided editorial support in the Corporate Education Partnerships division, who develop and manage various no-cost programs for K-12 students in partnership with corporations, nonprofits, foundations, and government agencies. One example is where I wrote the copy for the Pathway to Financial Success, which expanded its programming from just high school to include middle school.During this time, I developed a company-wide writing style guide for communications (using AP Style as a base), which involved these steps:o Consulted with writers from various departments about current company writing style practices. o Gathered information about company brand identity.o Wrote guidance on grammar, style, company-specific terms, proper terminology related to education and to education standards.o Wrote an introduction to plain language principles.o Managed a peer review process with stakeholders and company leadership to make sure the guide supported company brand identity.

I was honored to work at Baltimore Reads, Inc., a 26 year-old organization serving Baltimore city residents with low literacy skills. During this time, I managed the adult literacy program, engaged in building partnerships with other nonprofits in the community, served on advisory boards, guided staff during transitions in the organization, drafted professional communications including the 2013 holiday appeal letter and governmental grant renewal and reporting, presented workshops for students, delivered professional development for teachers, and mentored undergraduate and graduate students. During this time, we had over 25 students pass their GED® exams and earn their Maryland State High School Diplomas. While our team strengthened the education program, longstanding financial issues forced the closing of Baltimore Reads in summer 2014

Columbia, Md

I taught evening ESL classes, focusing on reading skills in preparation for high school diploma study and provide one-on-one English reading and speaking lessons to adult students from various countries including Ghana, Egypt, Mexico, and El Salvador. I custom designed their learning experiences based on CASAS test results and learner expressed goals. I also coached students in developing reading and writing skills needed for successfully completing the External Diploma Program (EDP). Our staff worked together to evaluate program needs and to align instruction with assessment. I also conducted action research to assess training needs of volunteer tutors and presented action research procedures and findings in a workshop at MAACCE conference in May, 2010.

Oversaw the writing and production of the Anglican curriculum serving clients in United States, Canada, and Singapore. Created materials for early childhood, elementary, and secondary students. Drafted the written guidelines to assist volunteer teachers in delivering the curriculum. Provided consultation and training for both volunteer teachers and graduate students in workshops and academic courses.Planned and helped implement marketing initiatives, including the writing of ad copy, developing the Web site, and generating the e-newsletter. Coordinated with two collaborating companies in producing and marketing product.
