I care deeply about the well-being of others to have a chance at a better life, so I jumped at an opportunity to support Roshan in its mission to become a secure, rejuvenating, and knowledge-driven center for refugee children, youth, and adults. I diversified and upgraded educational programs, strengthened skills of Roshan’s teachers and coaches, and built new partnerships.Highlights:➢ Established a partnership with Elite Open School and put in place a local support system for refugee students aged 13-18+ to earn a recognized US high school degree. 20+ students enrolled with a 98% completion rate.➢ Established the GED Prep program to help adult students attain a US General Education Development (GED) high school equivalency diploma, enhancing their employability and educational prospects.➢ Achieved a 5-year first with students passing US GRE tests for graduate admissions.➢ Empowered non-educators with modern teaching techniques through workshops and feedback, as well as a user-friendly monitoring tool for valuable insights into student performance.➢ Created a pathway for integrating SEL into the curricula.

Within the Primary Years Program (3-12 age range), my role bridged teaching, building teacher capacities, modernizing instruction, and enhancing the learner experience. Always seeking to nurture children’s social and emotional growth, I analyzed gaps and designed and led several transformational educational programs and initiatives.Highlights:➢ Directed a program that enhanced literacy and numeracy skills for Grade 4 students.➢ Drove the integration of social and emotional learning (SEL) into the curriculum and school culture after looking at gaps, scoping needs, and training 45 teachers. Many teachers soon reported higher levels of student engagement.➢ Took action to enrich children’s connections with the wider community—organized regular exchanges with children at a refugee learning center (Roshan).➢ Deployed tools such as EngageNY Math and Eureka Math to improve the math curriculum.

Customized workshops to cater to marginalized children and women, strengthening the organization's educational efforts. Collaborated on improving rural teacher training, enhancing workshops in resource-constrained settings. Prioritized primary-level literacy and numeracy, significantly improving education quality in underserved communities.

Dedicating 3 hours per week, I collaborated with UNHCR partners, Catholic Relief Services and PKPU Human Initiative, on designing and delivering a community-centered education initiative for children and adults at 5 refugee centers to improve their access to educational opportunities. I trained community educators and promoted dynamic frameworks, e.g., project-based learning. Highlights:➢ 20-25 non-educators became effective teachers within a short time frame. ➢ Customized SEL training for dealing with trauma and provided resources, e.g., structured storytelling, that center staff could use in their educational and psychosocial support work.➢ Provided advisory on expanding partnerships, funding opportunities, and social media reach.

In this consultancy role, I drafted manuscripts and technical documents for a collaboration between Vysnova Partners and the Naval Medical Research Center-Asia (NMRC-A) centering on malaria research in Southeast Asia. Embracing iterative review processes and insightful feedback from colleagues, scientific experts, and journal editors, I prepared two articles for peer review.

Offered facilitation and training expertise to diverse organizations supporting refugees in Egypt. Contributions include:➢ Tadamon – The Egyptian Refugee Multicultural Council Co-designed and delivered a 4-day psychosocial support training workshop for 30 participants from various local NGOs providing refugee support in the Alexandria area. The program examined supportive parental programs, women’s groups, youth clubs, livelihood activities, and case management.➢ US State Department Regional Language OfficeLed teacher training workshops to improve skills and use of creative strategies in teaching English to young learners. Participants came from NGOs and governmental and private educational institutions.

Passionate about early childhood development, I joined the K-5 primary education program to provide a safe and nurturing learning environment for 400-500 children within the Elementary School. I actively participated in school council meetings, contributed to school policy development, and continually engaged with my teacher peers to enhance learning outcomes. Highlights:➢ 95% of students met or exceeded benchmark levels in literacy and mathematics.➢ Collaborated on 5 school-wide policies, including health & safety, grading and assessment, and emergency response, helping to enhance efficiency and standards.

Developed and designed the programs for Grades 1 and 2 (ages 5-8). Taught 16 children in a combined class, embracing diverse learning needs. Monitored student performance. Enriched the learning experience and cross-cultural engagement by partnering with a nearby rural school and engaging 120 pupils in monthly English language initiatives.

As a new international school, I took the reins in creating and putting in place the school’s guidelines and protocols, purposefully aiming for an environment that was conducive to learning and well-organized. I also built and developed the core curriculum for Grade 1 primary students, growing from 7 children in the school’s opening year to 72 children across 3 classes in my third year there.Highlights:➢ Co-led an event that raised $40K to construct a school in Cambodia serving 100 students, Grades 1-5, and forged an enduring partnership between the school and AISE.➢ Architected 10 school policies, including grading and assessment, diversity and inclusion, and crisis management.➢ Provided solutions to systematically assess student and school performance, e.g., data tracking systems and using DIBELS for literacy skills.➢ Successfully advocated adopting American standards-based curricula, e.g., the US Common Core and Next Generation Science Standards.➢ Sought insights from support staff and external specialists to develop a program that meaningfully addressed the specific needs of students on the autism spectrum or dealing with trauma. Introduced an inclusive classroom model that demonstrated the significance of tailoring educational programs to accommodate children's social and cognitive capabilities.
