Product Manager – Equipment, Footwear And Accessories At Mountain Designs
The Position of Product Manager - Equipment, Footwear and Accessories was established after I progressed from the role of Outside Supplier Brand Manager with Mountain Designs. My experience and knowledge in equipment and accessories was seen as an asset for the Mountain Designs label, and from this a new role was developed for me to manage. The new role took on not only the outside brands within the Mountain Designs business but also the MD label, which meant working directly with the equipment designer on current and new ranges. In my new role as Product Manager, my current responsibilities (in addition to the ones of Outside Supplier Brand Manager tasks) are to:• Manage the equipment designer. Create briefs for new product lines and approve from its conception, establishing the ideal cost and retail price based on market research. Ensure all key critical path dates are achieved from concept, to prototype, to in-store execution.• Source, contact and establish relationships with new factories.• Negotiate pricing, demand expectation, factory floor booking, shipping and trading terms with suppliers and ensure the company’s best interests are protected and maintained.• Look for new and innovative materials, fabrics and techniques to incorporate into Mountain Designs equipment.• Cooperate with both Merchandise Planning and Marketing to highlight and promote the Mountain Designs and outside brand equipment both in store and online.

Those brands include: Salomon, Keen, Merrell, Mammut, Zamberlan, Black Diamond, Teva, Deuter, Millican, Sea to Summit, Ocun, Goal Zero, Suunto, amongst many others. In this position, some of my responsibilities were to:• Manage all outside supplier relationships across all product categories, including expectations of sales growth and purchase targets.• Source new products to introduce in-store.• Work with outside suppliers and internal marketing team to execute product launches and manage ongoing marketing campaigns that include relevant product.• Design and execute critical path key dates for new/ongoing products including launches and replenishment.• Generate reports and conduct monthly and seasonal analysis to track sell-through, identify key trends and maximise opportunities in the product range.• Cooperate with the Merchandise and Planning Team to achieve the ideal purchasing strategy in line with season budget per category, determine the OTB (open to buy) per category, maximise stock turns, control allocations and control the markdown of obsolete lines.• Provide store staff with relevant product training for all of Mountain Designs and Outside Brand equipment on a weekly basis.• Create product training videos to disperse to store and head office staff.
