I like robots.Wheeled robots, legged robots, domestic robots, industrial robots, quadrupeds, quadcopters, you name a robot, I probably like it. I can probably guess how it works, too, and that's genuinely my only decent party trick.I specialise in devising and implementing algorithmic solutions for robots. I've worked mainly on navigation, e.g. in SLAM, local motion control, planning, obstacle avoidance and so on. I also have a keen interest in machine learning, and at some point even did some machine-learning-based navigation; what's the point of keeping your interests separate?Besides navigation, I've personally worked on a wide number of sub-fields in robotics. Off the top of my head: * In the GrowMeUp project I did the brunt of my PhD work (see below) on Social Robotics, as well as software integration.* In the EuroAGE I kept on working in Social Robotics, although I dabbled in other stuff (see publications from that period).* In the SEMFIRE (https://semfire.ingeniarius.pt/) project I mainly worked on perception, and also got to co-supervise MSc students which is always a pleasure.* In the STOP (http://www.stop.ingeniarius.pt/) project I dabbled in multi-robot coordination.* I also worked on other interesting stuff that I'm not allowed to share :(I hold a few degrees, chief among which a PhD awarded by the University of Coimbra for my work on User-Adaptive robots. This work involved such interesting topics as user modelling, automatic adaptation, or machine learning. Look up the GrowMeUp project (http://www.growmeup.eu) for more info.
