About Gontse Sebitso (Cand.Sci.Nat)
I lick rocks to know if they taste like salt and I just might pour dilute hydrochloric acid on them because if they fizz, that's soda.-Who am IFirstly I am a son, a nature lover, an avid group traveler and, an explorer with a thirst for knowledge that's really hard to quench. Secondly I consider myself a hybrid geologist, meaning, I am old school with field work (career defining) and with my attention to detail (very important). I am also a new school geologist who is reasonably tech savvy and I intentionally enjoy the perks that come with technological advancement in geoscience. -Where it started I started my career on the 3rd Month of my university career by volunteering to help post graduate students with their research projects and doing anything else they asked of me pertaining to their projects, I wanted to learn and I wanted to do it quickly. From there I realized that Petrography Laboratory had one Technician, I volunteered to be an Assistant before earning a contract to help with geochemistry, petrography and sample preparation, and to a limited extent interpretations, at this point I wanted to apply what I was learning, make mistakes and see lots of rocks. On my 3rd year and Honours year I started helping industry professionals with their consulting projects which ranged from mine works, exploration to feasibility studies and exploitation. Here I realised that my studies alone were not enough and I needed industry exposure. -What I do My job is to travel, collect extensive field, laboratory and digital data. I then integrate it, examine it and spend some sleepless nights understanding rocks, the minerals they contain, their morphology, their quantity as well as the quality of the mineral deposit. Basically, I help humanity find minerals that are used to better our quality of life. -Why I do it It is because of a sincere passion for understanding the planet we inhabit as humans, having a natural curiosity of how Earth came to be and how it's used to sustain life and human evolution as well as an almost obsessive enthusiasm for understanding brines, minerals and rocks. These qualities come natural to me. -Soft Skills Self-started and self motivated. Excellent written and verbal Communicator. Exceptional working in a team. Methodological problem solving skills. Highly adaptable. Thrive under tremendous pressure. Creative. Open to criticism. Resourceful Message me if you want to talk about anything in geology, exploration and mining, Rare Earth Elements and the English Premier League.
